疑問代詞或副詞后的不定式
疑問代詞 who, what, which 等和疑問副詞 when, where, how 等后面跟不定式，構成不定式短語。這種結構在句中可作主語、賓語、表語、賓語補足語等句子成分。此結構可以改寫成由該疑問詞引導的從句，從句所作的句子成分不變。如：Perhaps the most difficult challenge is how to survive without friends. 可以改寫成 Perhaps the most difficult challenge is how we survive without friends（也許最艱難的挑戰，就是生活中孤獨無友。）
