【語法用法】
across后常加from，
He lives across (the street) from my house.
他住在我的房子的對面。
與across不同，through是指在三維空間里移動。
We walked across the ice.
I walked through the wood.

錯句: When the green light is on, you're allowed to across the road.
訂正: When the green light is on, you're allowed to cross the road.

across, along, over, through
這些前置詞均有“橫過、穿過”之意。
across指“從……的一邊到另一邊”，強調橫過，多與動態動詞連用。
along指沿著一條直線在水平方向上運動。一般表動態，有時也與靜態動詞連用。
over常和動態動詞連用，指“從……上面越過”或“橫越”；表靜態時，指“在彼處”。
through側重從一端穿到另一端。

read, devour, scan, skim
這些動詞均有“讀、閱讀”之意。
read最普通用詞，含義廣泛。既指朗讀又可指默讀。
devour指貪婪地讀，暗含對某些作者或作品迷戀之義。
scan指快速掃視文章等以抓其要旨或找尋某一具體信息。
skim指略讀或瀏覽。
