一.policy:n.政策, 方針 n.保險(xiǎn)單
【語法用法】
policy習(xí)慣上用于討論政府的一些理論和實(shí)踐，或是政府組員間的糾紛以及相關(guān)想法；
Chinese policy，American policy，foreign policy等表達(dá)方式前一般不帶the；
policy解釋為“策略”的意思，有時(shí)可加a，有時(shí)省略。
It was policy to consent.
It was (a) good policy to consent.
The policy of this course is doubtful.
從句中the不能省略。
policy解釋為“保險(xiǎn)單”的意思，要注意后面所接介詞on/for的用法。例如a policy on her car,a life insurance policy for $200；
句子I have taken out a fire insurance policy表示我保了火險(xiǎn)。
【例句用法】
The annual premium on my policy is 3000 yuan.
我的保險(xiǎn)單每年的保險(xiǎn)費(fèi)是三千元。
Until we'd built up sufficient forces to drive the invaders back, we pursued a policy of containment.
我們對入侵之?dāng)巢扇恐频姆结槪詡浣M織好兵力將之擊退。
二.before:conj.在 ... 以前pref.在 ... 以前, 在..前面 adv.以前, 以往, 之前
【語法用法】
Before同ago的比較：
表示“早于現(xiàn)在多少時(shí)間前”，用ago。
He started five minutes ago.
表示“早于過去某時(shí)多少時(shí)間前”，通常用before 。
He told me he had seen her a few minutes before.
英美人也有用ago，覺得語氣比較生動。
表示“早于將來某時(shí)多少時(shí)間前”，也用before。
When you call at the shop again this afternoon, you may be told that the book has been sold only a few minutes before.
表示“早于任何某時(shí)（不是現(xiàn)在、過去或?qū)淼哪硶r(shí)）多少時(shí)間前”，仍用before。
He often forgets what he has heard only a few minutes before.
表示“從現(xiàn)在說到以前，不特指若干時(shí)間”時(shí)，用before。
We (have) met them many times before.
在倒數(shù)回以前，表示“一些事情已發(fā)生了多久”時(shí)，可用before。
When I went back to the town that I had left eight years before, everything was different.
before與不同介詞搭配時(shí)，句子意思有差異。
All day, as three days before, we planted trees.
同三天前一樣，我們一整天都在種樹。
All day, as for three days before, we planted trees.
同以前的三天一樣，我們一整天都在種樹。
before既可作副詞，也可作介詞，如在three hours before中為副詞。在before three o'clock中為介詞，但要注意before不能在表示“一段時(shí)間”的詞前作介詞，不能說before a month，可說a month ago；
before long，屬于習(xí)語，表示“不久以后”，同before a long time has passed意思一樣。before very long也指“不久以后”，但比before long時(shí)間短；
要注意before的表達(dá)方式，不能說before five minutes of the accident，而是five minutes before the accident。其他表達(dá)方式如下：
A few minutes before the accident she called on me.
（不含the/for）
During the few minutes before the accident she had a chat with me.
（含the）For a few minutes before the accident she had a chat with me.
（含for）
before作連接詞，指“……以前”時(shí)，后接到從句中的動詞一般不能用將來時(shí)。如不可以說He will arrive before she will start，可以說He will arrive before she starts。
若是表示“長久以后才會發(fā)生的事”時(shí)，可用將來時(shí)。
It will not be long before they come back.
他們很快就回來了。
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句: It is better to check the oil before to start the car.
訂正: It is better to check the oil before starting the car.
翻譯: 在發(fā)動車子前最好檢查下汽油。
分析: before做介詞時(shí)，后動詞用動名詞形式。
