TEXT:A historic journey for U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta in Vietnam. On Sunday Panetta became the most senior U.S. official since the end of the Vietnam War to visit Cam Ranh Bay in central Vietnam, a U.S. logistics hub during the conflict. Now he is calling for closer military ties between the two nations. SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. DEFENSE SECRETARY, LEON PANETTA SAYING: "We need to obviously build a stronger defense relationship with countries like Vietnam and elsewhere, so that we can help provide them the training, assistance and whatever they need to try to improve their capabilities to be part of the family of nations in this great region that can advance security and prosperity for all." On Monday Panetta and his Vietnamese counterpart exchanged letters and a diary taken from servicemen killed during the war. Panetta's visit signals closer military ties between one- time foes who resumed diplomatic relations 17 years ago. TEXT:It looks like a picturesque village in Austria … until you see the Mandarin signs. This is China's clone of Austria's UNESCO World Heritage village, Hallstatt. It cost around 940 million U.S. dollars to build and its existence is controversial in the 'real' Hallstatt. SOUNDBITE: Karin H?ll, resident of Hallstatt, saying (German): "I don't think that it is a good idea. Hallstatt is unique with its culture and traditions. You can't copy that. In my opinion it's unacceptable." But the village's mayor, Alexander Scheutz, who visited China to mark the replica's opening, thinks it will bring tourists to his town in Austria. SOUNDBITE: Alexander Scheutz, Mayor of Hallstatt, saying (English): "It's not so controversial. We were only surprised that a small village in Austria was built, and now we are very proud that it happened." Visitors to Chinese Hallstatt were transported. SOUNDBITE: Zhu Bin, 22-year-old Huizhou resident, saying (Mandarin): "The moment I stepped into the village, I felt I was in Europe. The security guards wear nice costumes. All the houses are built in European style." Fewer than 50 Chinese tourists visited Hallstatt in 2005, but now thousands visit annually. 3【Canadian police confirm dismemberment suspect arrested in Berlin】加碎尸案嫌疑人被抓
BRIEF:Montreal Police Commander Ian Lafreniere confirmed that Canadian Luka Rocco Magnotta, suspected of murdering and dismembering a Chinese student in Montreal, was arrested in an Internet cafe in Berlin on Monday. Interpol issued an arrest warrant last week for Magnotta, who faces first degree murder charges over the videotaped death of the student, whose body parts were mailed to political parties in the Canadian capital Ottawa. He is believed to have entered France on May 26, and French police had been investigating thousands of reported sightings. Magnotta was found in a cafe on Karl Marx Strasse, a busy shopping street running through the multi-cultural south-Berlin district, which is home to numerous Turkish and Lebanese cafes and snack bars. German television quoted the owner of the cafe as saying that Magnotta had spent an hour surfing the internet before police entered and took him into custody.

TEXT:Rescue workers dig through the smoldering wreckage of a deadly plane crash in Lagos that killed at least 153 people. The Dana Air flight, which took off in Abuja, smashed into a building not far from the commercial center's airport on Saturday. Authorities are still investigating the incident as family members of the victims struggle to come to terms with the tragedy. (SOUNDBITE) (English) LAGOS STATE GOVERNOR, BABATUNDE FASHOLA, SAYING: "It is simply too much to take in at one time, really. Ordinary people trying to earn a living ending up so tragically and untimely, the families, the pilots, the crew, young Nigerians whose lives have been so drastically and suddenly cut short. It is a very, very traumatic and painful experience." Residents nearby said the crash stunned onlookers who heard blasts echo as the plane hit the ground.
