TEXT:As Chinese President Hu Jintao hosts his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, China's State television is reporting that the two leaders are calling for support for a UN-backed ceasefire in Syria. Putin also said the two nations were on the same page when it comes to the Middle East, Iran and the Korean peninsula. RUSSIAN PRESIDENT, VLADIMIR PUTIN, SAYING: "Our two countries' views on these issues are the same or similar. Overall, we have already reached a very high level of mutual coordination in order to promote the easing of international crises and issues by the most effective means" The two also see closer military ties ahead. (SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) CHINESE PRESIDENT, HU JINTAO, SAYING: "We have decided to increase cooperation in the fields of military, law enforcement and security." TEXT:U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is calling on Georgia's political leadership to strengthen democracy and hold free and fair elections.U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE HILLARY CLINTON, SAYING : "I urge all the people of Georgia to remember though you did make history with the Rose Revolution, the more difficult and ultimately the more important work may well be ahead, building the habits and practices that sustain democracy over time. That means not only holding successful elections but also going beyond elections and strengthening the other key powers of democracy such as labour rights, judicial independence, media independence and access." While praising Georgia's economic reforms and anti-corruption push, U.S. officials fear the dominance of Mikheil Saakashvili. The president was was elected after peaceful protests in 2003, but has made it hard for other leaders to emerge ahead of October's parliamentary vote and the 2013 presidential poll. TEXT:Sky watchers all over the Earth witnessed a rare astronomical event on Wednesday... the transit of Venus as it passed between the sun and Earth. In South Korea, students watched the planet, which appeared as a small black round spot, as it moved across the face of the sun. In the Philippines, students held pieces of film across their eyes as a filter to help block the sun's bright rays. The phenomenon happens twice in an eight year period... and then not again until more than 100 years. Wednesday's transit was the second time in eight years. The next pair of transits won't happen again until 2117. In northern India, the sun rose with a black dot across it. Scientists hope to learn more about Venus' atmosphere -- and why that planet, which is nearly the same size and orbit from the sun -- is so different from Earth. Julie Noce, Reuters

【NASA delivers high-def view of Venus transit】NASA提供金星凌日高清攝像
TEXT:The images were produced by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) during a six hour period over June 5 and 6. They were taken through different filters, designed for different wavelengths to show details of the Sun's surface and provide clues about Venus's atmosphere. Recording the transit in so many diferent ways also helped NASA scientists calibrate the SDO's instruments for its ongoing observations of the Sun. Using established data about the path of Venus across the sun, SDO scientists were able to ensure the observatory's instruments were oriented to true solar north. The observatory, carrying an array of four telescopes, was launched in February, 2010 on a five year mission to study the sun. NASA says it has been a spectacular success.

It has touched me deeply to see so many thousands of families, neighbors and friends celebrating together in such a happy atmosphere." "But Prince Philip and I want to take this opportunity to offer our special thanks and appreciation to all those who have had a hand in organizing these Jubilee celebrations. "It has been a massive challenge, and I am sure that everyone who has enjoyed these festive occasions realizes how much work has been involved.
