Passage 2 is part of a lecture on the subject of happiness.
聽到happiness時，可以問問自己，對happiness有多少見解與感悟？如果我們對話題有深入的了解，碰到具體問題就有豐富的背景知識幫助自己理解。因此，大家切記要廣泛進行閱讀、聽解，吸取多方面的知識與見解。
Passage 2:
Well, before I start to talk on the subject of happiness, I’d like to tell you a story. One day a woman came and said to me, “I loved my husband so much, but it wasn’t easy being married to someone so unhappy.”
本段的主要問題在于it wasn’t easy being married to someone so unhappy一句。很多考生將該句譯成“嫁給這樣的人不開心”，甚至譯成“與這樣不開心的人離婚不容易”，這說明這些考生因為未能把握住being married… wasn’t easy的結構而斷章取義。要注意it作為形式主語的用法。
This woman enabled me to put into words what I had been researching for. I told her that we all wanted to make others happy. But it wasn’t easy. I myself was not happy. I often took pleasure in my anger.
本段通過率不高，在于第一句和最后一句。首先，enable sb to do的結構就有考生未聽出來，這是基本結構，說明這些考生平時就不常在口語表達中使用這一結構。其次，put into words中的into words其實是將put與其賓語what I had been researching for進行了分隔，如果本結構簡化成put it into words，就不成其為問題了。這種分隔形式在書面表達中較為常見，有基于銜接的考慮，也有基于句子平衡的考慮。比如常用詞組take sth into account/consideration（對…加以考慮；考慮…）就經常以take into account/consideration sth的形式出現。再如：
We need to set in motion the immune system that normally protects the body against specific infections. 我們需要啟動通常保護身體免受某種感染的免疫系統。(set…in motion意為“啟動”，set和其賓語部分the immune system that…infections被in motion分隔)
Each bacterium can take into itself food and oxygen, which are needed for its survival. 每個細菌都能將食物與氧氣攝入體內，這些是其生存所需的物質。(into itself將take和其賓語部分food and oxygen, which…survival分隔)
The paper of this page looks white because it sends back to our eyes all the colours in the light that reach it. 這頁紙看上去是白色的，因為到達紙上的光中所有的顏色都被紙反射到我們眼中。(to our eyes將send back與其賓語部分all the colours…it分隔)
本段最后一句I often took pleasure in my anger也讓許多考生不知所措。大家如果知道take delight in代表“以…為樂”或take pride in表示“以…為榮”，則可以理解相同結構take pleasure in是“以…為樂”的意思。
Later on, I realized that I was taking the easy way out. The true happiness lies in struggling for achievements. We have to work at happiness.
take the easy way out本意為“以最省事（可能并非最得體）的方法回避困難或尷尬的處境”。
A lies in B是常用句式，意為“A取決于B”。
本段即使不清楚take the easy way out這一表達，也可從happiness lies in struggling，have to work這樣的字眼中理解出“獲得幸福不會很容易，需要努力爭取”之意。
再次強調：口譯的基礎是聽力+理解，其中后者需要大家大量實踐（做聽解或閱讀理解），從邏輯主線著手多多進行語篇分析，方能得以充分利用上下文的線索求得全盤理解。
