一.allow：vt. 允許，讓某人得到，留出，同意（法律） vi. (for)考慮到，允許
【詞語用法】
1.allow有“給”的意思，后可以加雙賓語。
He allows his son ￥10 a week.
2.permit和allow兩詞的用法和意思相近。
兩者可以通用，均指“允許”，且后面都可加賓語加不定式。
Allow/Permit me to congratulate you on your success.
當不存在賓語的時候，兩詞后加動名詞。
We do not allow/permit smoking in the kitchen.
allow和permit還常用于被動語態。
Smoking is not allowed/permitted in the kitchen.
但allow可與副詞搭配使用，而permit不行。
She wouldn't allow me in.
此外，allow有“容許，并不禁止”的意思，而permit指“準許”，比allow更正式化。
Nothing is permitted, everything is allowed.
一切都不準許，但也并不禁止。
3.allow of同admit of一樣，指“有…的余地”。
The question allows of no dispute.
4.allow for指“考慮，體諒”。
We must allow for accidents.
我們必須考慮到意外。
He has indeed made many mistakes, but you must allow for his inexperience.

1.She won't allow the children in(to the house) until they've wiped their shoes.

二.perhaps：adv. 也許，可能
【詞義辨析】
maybe，perhaps，possibly，probably
maybe: 普通用詞，美國英語多用，指某事也許如此，含不能確定意味。
perhaps: 普通用詞，多用于英國，與maybe同義。
possibly: 指客觀上潛存著發生某種變化的可能。
probably: 一般指根據邏輯推理，估計有發生的可能，把握性較大，語氣比possibly強。
【例句用法】
1.Yes, perhaps I'm wrong there.
是的，在這點上也許我錯了。
2.As she's been ill perhaps she'll need some help.
她由于生病可能需要些幫助。
