Henry W. Longfellow
亨利·W.
Henry W. Longfellow was great American storyteller, but he told his stories in poetry. You are now going to read part of a long poem about Indian life. In this poem Longfellow tells for us many of the old stories or legends that the story-tellers of the tribes passed on from one to another down through the years.

By the shores of Gitche Gurnee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water,
Stood the wigwam of Nokomis,
Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis.
Dark behind it rose the forest,
Rose the black and gloomy pine-trees.
Rose the firs with cones upon them;
冷杉上長出了圓錐體;
Bright before it beat the water,
Beat the clear and sunny water.
Beat the shining Big-Sea-Water.
