One night David heard a noise in the bushes not far away.
一天晚上，大衛(wèi)聽到不遠處的灌木從里有聲音。
Jumping to his feet, he stood ready to fight for his flock.
他馬上跳了起來，隨時準備為他的羊群而大戰(zhàn)一場。
Suddenly, a great lion leaped out of the bushes and caught a lamb.
這時候，一只獅子突然跳出了灌木叢，抓住了一只小羊羔。
At once David rushed forward and struck the beast a heavy blow with his staff.
大衛(wèi)立刻沖了上去，用他的手杖重重地打在這頭野獸的身上。
Roaring angrily, the lion dropped the lamb and turned upon David.
獅子憤怒地咆哮著，它放下了小羊羔，朝著大衛(wèi)沖了過來。
But the brave boy struck the beast such a hard blow that it fell dead.
但這個勇敢的男孩重重地打這個野獸一棒，獅子倒地死了。
That night David played upon his harp and sang these words, "I will give thanks unto Thee, O Lord, and sing praises unto Thy name!"
那天晚上，大衛(wèi)撥弄著他的豎琴唱道：哦，上帝，我要感謝你，稱頌你的名！
Some months passed, and then one day David saw some men riding swiftly toward him.
幾個月過去了，有一天，大衛(wèi)看到一些人騎著馬向他沖過來。
He knew at once that they were robbers, who would try to kill him and carry off his sheep.
他立刻明白了，這些人是強盜，他們想要殺了他，搶走他的羊。
"I am only one, and they are many," he said to himself, "but I will not be afraid, for I know God will help me."
我只有一個人，他們人多，他對自己說，但是我不害怕，因為我知道上帝會幫助我。
So the boy took his sling, went toward the robbers, and shot one stone after another at them.
于是，男孩拿起自己的彈弓，走向強盜，他一個石子接著一個石子地向他們射去。
With each shot, a rider fell from his horse.
每射一個，就有一個騎馬的從馬上掉下來。
Most of the robbers now became frightened and galloped away.
大多數(shù)的強盜現(xiàn)在都害怕了，他們騎著馬走了。
But a few of them jumped from their horses and rushed toward the boy.
但是他們中還有幾個人從馬上跳下來，向男孩沖過來。
Then David raised his staff and struck such heavy blows that the robbers cried to each other,
于是大衛(wèi)舉起了手杖，重重地打在他們身上，強盜們互相大聲喊著：
"The boy is as strong as a giant!" Quickly they jumped on their horses and galloped off.
這個男孩力氣很大，就跟巨人一樣！他們很快地跳上馬，逃走了。
