Away ran Brother Fox. Then Brother Rabbit came out of the bushes and hopped away, laughing to himself.
狐里哥哥走了。這時兔子弟弟從灌木叢中走了出來，自己一邊笑一邊蹦蹦跳跳的走了。
The next day Brother Fox went creeping through the bushes.
又過了一天，狐貍哥哥從灌木叢里爬了過來。
He was carrying a wooden doll and a pail of tar.
它帶來了一個木娃娃和一桶柏油。
"I'll catch Brother Rabbit now," he said, "with this soft, sticky tar!"
我現(xiàn)在要用這軟軟的黏黏的柏油抓住兔子弟弟，他說，
Brother Fox put the doll on the path near the little house and covered it with the sticky tar. Then he hid in the bushes.
狐貍哥哥把這個娃娃放在小屋旁的小路上，并在上面涂了黏黏的柏油，而他自己則藏在了灌木叢里。
By and by Brother Rabbit came down the path.
沒過多久，兔子弟弟就順著小路過來了。
He looked around for Brother Fox, but he did not see him.
他四周看了看，找了找狐貍哥哥，但沒有看到他。
So he went on toward the little house. All at once he saw the Tar Baby.
于是他走向小屋，突然，他看到了這個柏油娃娃。
"Hello," said Brother Rabbit. "Who are you?" The Tar Baby didn't say anything.
你好，兔子弟弟說，你是誰啊？柏油娃娃什么都沒說。
"Why don't you answer me?" asked Brother Rabbit. The Tar Baby didn't say a word.
你為什么不回答我？兔子弟弟問。柏油娃娃一言不發(fā)。
"See here!" said Brother Rabbit. "Have you no tongue in your black head? Answer me!Speak up in a hurry, or I'll hit you!"
看這！兔子弟弟說，你黑黑的腦殼里沒長著舌頭嗎？回答我，快說話，不然我就打你了！
The Tar Baby said nothing, and so Brother Rabbit hit him with his right hand.
柏油娃娃還是什么都沒說。于是兔子弟弟用右手打了他。
It stuck fast to the tar, and he could not pull it away.
結(jié)果他的右手被緊緊地粘在了柏油上，收不回來了。
"Let go!" shouted Brother Rabbit. "Let go my hand, I say! Will you let go?"
放開我！兔子弟弟喊道，我說放開我的手，你不放開嗎？
Still the Tar Baby didn't say anything.
柏油娃娃還是什么都沒說。
This made Brother Rabbit so angry that he hit the Tar Baby with his other hand.
兔子弟弟很生氣，他又用另一只手去打他。
Bang! and now both hands were stuck.
砰！現(xiàn)在他的兩只手都被粘上了。
He pulled and shook the Tar Baby, but the Tar Baby didn't say a word.
他邊往外拉，邊搖著這個柏油娃娃，但柏油娃娃還是一言不發(fā)。
"Let me go!" shouted angry Brother Rabbit.
放開我！兔子弟弟生氣的吼道。
"Let me go, or I'll kick you with my foot!"
放開我，不然我就要用腳踢你了。
