Soon he came to the palace and knocked at the door.
不一會兒，傻蛋來到宮殿前并敲了敲門。
When a servant opened the door, Simpleton said, "I have a present to give to the king."
一個仆人打開了門，傻蛋說，我有一件禮物要送給國王。
"Oh, indeed,"said the servant, "Let me see it, "Simpleton opened his basket and showed him the goose,
嗯，這很好，仆人說，讓我看看，傻蛋揭開籃子給他看看肥鵝，
"That is a very fine goose," said the servant, "but half of it is mine.
真是只上好的肥鵝啊，仆人說，不過這只肥鵝應該有我的一半。
For I am the keeper of the door, and half of everything that is carried in must be given to me."
因為我是門衛(wèi)，所有帶進去的東西都要分我一半。
"But I can not take half a goose to the king," said Simpleton. "What shall I do?"
但是我總不能拿半只鵝送給國王啊，傻蛋說。我該怎么辦才好呢？
"I will tell you what to do," said the servant, "If you take the goose to the king, he will give you a reward.
我來告訴你怎么辦吧，仆人說，你把鵝獻給國王，國王會獎賞你的。
You can give half of the reward to me."
你可以把獎賞的一半給我。
When Simpleton promised to give up half of his reward, the servant let him go into the palace.
在傻蛋答應讓出自己一半的獎賞后，這個仆人讓他進入了宮殿。
There, at the foot of the stairs, stood another servant.
在樓梯口，還站著另一個仆人。
"I have a present for the king," Simpleton said to this one, as he showed him the goose.
我有一件禮物要給國王，傻蛋一邊對這個人說，一邊給他看了一下肥鵝。
"That is a fine goose," said the servant, "but half of it is mine.
真是只上好的肥鵝啊，仆人說，但這只鵝的一半是我的。
I am the keeper of the stairs, and half of everything that goes up them belongs to me."
我是看守樓梯的侍衛(wèi)，所有送上去的東西有一半是我的。
Simpleton had to promise this servant,also,half of the reward. At once the servant took him to the king.
于是傻蛋也答應給這個仆人一半的獎賞。這個仆人立刻帶他去了國王那里。
While the second servant was waiting to see what the king would do, the first servant came in.
當?shù)诙€仆人等在那里要看國王做什么的時候，第一個仆人也進來了。
The king was much pleased with Simpleton's present.
國王很喜歡傻蛋的禮物。
"This is a very fine goose, indeed," he said.
這確實是只上好的肥鵝，國王說。
"You shall have a reward. What would you like?"
你應該得到賞賜，你要什么？
