By this time everyone in the palace knew that a little girl had come to make the princess cry.
此時，王宮里的每個人都知道有個小姑娘來讓公主哭的事情了。
Soon a great crowd of people was waiting outside the room.
很快，有一大群人圍在了屋外。
"I wonder if that child can really make the princess cry," whispered one of the people.

"No, indeed!" said another. "Does she think she is wiser than the wisest men?"
不行，肯定不行！另一個人說。她真以為自己比那些最聰明的智者還要聰明嗎？
At last the king and queen could wait no longer.
最后，國王和王后再也等不下去了。
They quietly opened the door and peeped into the room.
他們悄悄地打開了門，偷偷地往屋子里瞧了一眼。

The princess was standing at the table with Marigold's basket in front of her.
公主站在桌子旁，瑪麗戈爾德的籃子就放在她的前面。
She was peeling onions as hard as she could, while the tears ran down her face. She was crying at last!
小公主正在竭盡所能地剝著洋蔥，而眼淚嘩嘩地流了出來。她終于哭了。
The king and queen ran into the room and took their daughter in their arms, onions and all.
國王和王后沖進(jìn)屋里，一把抱起了還拿著洋蔥的女兒。
Some of the queen's friends put their handkerchiefs to their noses.
王后的一些朋友拿手帕捂住了鼻子。
The servants laughed when they heard what had happened.
聽到發(fā)生的事情后，仆人們都笑了。
And the cook said, "Well, I could have done that myself!"
而廚師則說，哦，那我也能做到！
From that day the princess was like everybody else.
從那天起，公主便和常人一樣了。
She cried when she was unhappy and laughed when she was glad.
不開心時會哭，開心時會笑。
I am pleased to say, though, that she always laughed much more often than she cried.
不過我要高興地說，她笑的時候要比哭的時候多。
As for Marigold, she got her bag of gold from the king.
至于瑪麗戈爾德，她從國王那拿到了那袋金子。
With the money she bought good food, and her mother soon became well and strong again.
她用這些錢買了些營養(yǎng)品，很快她的媽媽就好了起來。
The king and queen often invited Marigold to come to the palace and play with their daughter.
國王和王后也經(jīng)常邀請瑪麗戈爾德來王宮和他們的女兒玩耍。
They all grew to love her very much because she was always kind and good and merry.
他們都慢慢地喜歡上了她，因為她總是那么友好、那么善良和快樂。
