【詞語用法】
1.answer(to)the letter，answer(to)the question，answer(for)the purpose等常用格式中，習慣將to或for等介詞省略掉，但是注意reply to the letter中的to不可以省略；
2.answer有時指“答復……的內(nèi)容”。
I have your letter, but as I am very busy, I cannot answer it at present.
句中的主語已經(jīng)在回復信了，但還說沒有辦法answer。
有時，answer指“報告收到”，reply指“答復……的內(nèi)容”。
I answered your letter by sending a postcard last Monday and have since been waiting for time to reply to it.
3.同reply比較，answer有時指“中肯的答復”。
Your reply is not an answer.
你的回答不中肯。
4.answered有時指“把……作為答復”。
He answered her not a word.
他連一個詞都沒有回復她。
5.answer后可接that從句或另接賓語。
He answered that he could not go.
他回復說自己去不了了。
He answered me that he would not go.
他回復我說他去不了了。
6.在商業(yè)回信的開頭，常用“In answer to your letter ...”的格式。
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句：This is the answer to some of their previously inexplicable behaviour.
糾正：This is the explanation for their previously inexplicable behaviour.
翻譯：這是對之前他們的一些無法解釋的行為的解釋。
分析：answer沒有“解釋”的意思。
【例句用法】
1.I agree but I can't answer for my colleagues.
我同意，但是我不能代表我的同事們。
2.Have you had an answer to your letter?
你的信是否有了回信？
3.He has had no answer to his letter.
他的信沒收到回信。
二.help：v. 幫助，有助于，促進，擅自拿取，（不）能防止或避免某事物 n. 幫助，援助，幫手，傭人，仆人 int. 救命！
【詞語用法】
1.help表示“幫助”時，后接不定式或賓語和不定式，但絕不不可接動名詞。
This book will help (to) improve your English.
美國人常將句中的to可省略。
注意當被動語態(tài)helped被使用時，to一定不可省略。
You will be helped to improve your English.
2.help表示“避免”時，后接動名詞，但是不可接不定式。
I cannot help thinking so.
3.cannot help同cannot but都表示“不能避免，不得不”，前者后接動名詞，后者接沒有to的不定式。
I cannot help thinking so.
I cannot but think so.
第一句比第二句用法普遍。
4.在美國有cannot help but接不含to的不定式格式。
I cannot help but think so.
5.在美國，help還可表示為“傭工”，既可指單個，也可指多個。
His help is a young man.
他的幫傭是個年輕的男人。
All his help are young men.
他全部的幫傭都是年輕的男人。
with/without the help of others和with/without help from others屬于固定的搭配，注意介詞和the的存在；
6.help sb in/with sth表示“幫助某人做某事”。
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句：The two girls were helping each other for the cooking.
糾正：The two girls were helping each other with/in the cooking.
翻譯：這兩女孩子互相幫忙做飯。
