David: Elizabeth?

Liz: Liz.

David: Liz, I'm sorry. We're making our last decisions now. I'm already late. 我們馬上就要做最后決定了。我已經(jīng)晚了。

Liz: I've already done the essay. I really want this. I haven't had a lot grownups that proved to be trustworthy or they are in there for the long runs, so maybe I don't know how to talk to you, but ... 我已經(jīng)完成作文了。我真的想要上學(xué)。我身邊沒有很多值得信任的成年人，或者能長期和我在一起的成年人，所以，我不知道該怎么跟你談話，但是……

My parents both use drugs, a lot of them. I won't go near them, but...but I guess I, kind of, lived that life style. I'm embarrassed now about how layback I've been. I mean, I've never even really been school except for the 8th grade. 我父母都吸毒，很嚴(yán)重。但我不會和毒品沾邊。但是我就是生活在那種環(huán)境。再在我很為自己過去的自暴自棄覺得難堪，我是說，除了八年級，我沒有真正去上過學(xué)。

David: But your grades are very good in elementary school. 但你小學(xué)的成績非常好。

Liz: I used to show up last week and take the test, that's how I get promoted. I'm smart. I know I can succeed. I just... I just need the chance. I need the chance to climb out of this place I've been born in. Everyone I know is just angry, tired. They're trying to survive. But I know that there's a world out there, that's better. David: Why now? 為什么是現(xiàn)在？

Liz: My mother died of AIDS. She died a couple of months ago. And it was real slap on the face. I guess I always thought that she was gonna get better and take care of me. It's pretty stupid huh?

She'd never been taking care of me. I took care of her. She was my baby. But now she's gone. so ... 我媽媽死于愛滋病。她幾個月前死了。感覺好像被打了幾巴掌。我猜我老是以為她會好轉(zhuǎn)，會照顧我。很蠢是吧? 她從來都沒有照顧過我，我照顧她。她是我的孩子。但現(xiàn)在她不在了，所以……

David: Now it's time to take care of yourself. Can you get here on time? Liz? 現(xiàn)在是時候你自己照顧自己了。你能按時到校嗎? 麗絲?

Liz: I'll sleep here if I have to. 如果需要，我可以睡在這里。

David: OK, you're in. 好吧，你被錄取了。
