Miss Watson: You okay? Greenwich Village?
Betty: Yeah. For a while. Then, who knows? Maybe law school. Yale, even.
Well......I wouldn't want to come up against you in any court anywhere.
Maybe I can drop by next year? Keep you on your toes. You will be here? Miss Watson?
Miss Watson: Dear Betty: I came to Wellesley because I wanted to make a difference.
But to change for others is to lie to yourself.
Betty: My teacher...Katherine Watson, lived by her own definition and would not compromise that. Not even for Wellesley.
I dedicate this, my last editorial to an extraordinary woman who lived by example and compelled us all to see the world through new eyes.
By the time you read this, she'll be sailing to Europe where I know she'll find new walls to break down and new ideas to replace them with.

I've heard her called a quitter for leaving an aimless wanderer.
But not all who wander are aimless.
Especially not those who seek truth beyond tradition...beyond definition......beyond the image.

打算去法學院的Joan選擇了結婚；一直以做個好妻子為人生目標的Betty卻有可能真的去耶魯繼續讀書。得知這一點后 Miss Watson開玩笑說，I wouldn't want to come up against you in any court anywhere. Come up against是一個固定短語，表示“碰到”，常指碰到某種困難。比如：We expect to come up against a lot of opposition to the plan. 我們預計到這個計劃會有很多反對意見。電影中整個句子意思是“我可不想在任何時候任何地方的法庭上見到你。” 可見之前已經領教了Betty的厲害。
Betty告訴Miss Watson以后可能會drop by，順路拜訪。并讓老師 keep you on your toes. 做好準備。Keep on one’s toes，小心。做好準備。再比如：The threat of inspections kept us all on our toes. 隨時進行審查使得我們都保持警覺。
在Betty的眼中，Miss Watson是一個extraordinary woman，不平凡的，特別的女子。她live by her own definition，按自己的人生信條生活。這樣的老師live by example成為了她們的榜樣，并且compelled us all to see the world through new eyes。Compel，迫使，強迫。這里可翻譯為“促使”。促使我們用新的視角看世界。
