二、Listen and Learn 內(nèi)容透析
1、Are you shopping for some art to match your furniture?match：它的第一個(gè)意思是“對手”，比如：I am no match for her when it comes to language. 在語言能力方面我根本不是她的對手。相應(yīng)的動(dòng)詞含有則是“較量”。第二個(gè)意思是“火柴”，比如：The smoker tossed away the lighted match and so caused a fire. 那個(gè)抽煙的人隨手扔掉火柴棒，引起了一場火災(zāi)。第三個(gè)意思是“比賽”，比如the cricket match就是指“棒球比賽”。最后一個(gè)意思是“配偶”或“般配的人”，比如：He anxiously desired to have his niece married, to make for her a suitable match. 他非常想把他內(nèi)侄女嫁出去，給他找個(gè)門當(dāng)戶對的配偶。 取這個(gè)意思的時(shí)候它相應(yīng)的動(dòng)詞含義是“相配”。

2、match、fit與suit的區(qū)分：fit與suit可指衣服“合適”或“適合”的意思。不同的是，fit 指大小、尺寸合體，如：The coat fits me well. 這件上衣我穿著很合身。而suit是指顏色，花樣或款式適合。比如：The colour of the cloth suits a woman at my wife's age. 這布的顏色適合我妻子年齡的婦女穿。match多指大小、色調(diào)、形狀、性質(zhì)等方面的搭配。著重強(qiáng)調(diào)的是搭配。舉個(gè)例子：The People‘s Great Hall and the Historical Museum match the Tian An Men beautifully. 人民大會(huì)堂和歷史博物館與天安門陪襯得極為優(yōu)美。

3、Cause we're awesome.因?yàn)槲覀兒馨簟?font color="#308619">awesome這里是指“很了不起的，很棒的，精彩的”，再舉一個(gè)例子：The sunrise on the sea is an awesome sight. 海上日出的景色令人嘆為觀止。awesome還可以表示“可怕的”，比如：An awesome thunderstorm struck the city yesterday. 昨天,一場可怕的暴風(fēng)雨侵襲了這個(gè)城市。用于人awesome可以指“表示敬畏的”。比如：The archaeologist stood in awesome silence before the ancient ruins. 那名考古學(xué)家在古代遺址前充滿敬畏地默立著。

5、Are you sure it's not some ploy, your using my daughter to get to me now that your wife left you? 你確定你不是在使用花招嗎？你利用我的女兒接近我，因?yàn)槟愕睦掀烹x開了你?ploy：策略，手段。比如：The boss tried many ploy to get customer into the store.老板用盡各種伎倆引顧客上門。now that是“既然，由于”的意思。

7、In your dreams是個(gè)俚語，表示“休想，不可能，做白日夢”。別人要你干一件你不愿意做的事情，你也可以說No way. Never. In your dreams.不可能的。你休想。別做夢了。我們還可以說not on your life，要注意介詞是on，而不是in。Will I stand for such a thing? Not on your life!我能忍受這種事情嗎？這輩子都別想！No way：沒門。

8、Well, you are in my dreams, Lily, and one in particular recurs...你是在我夢里啊，Lily。還反覆出現(xiàn)……recur是“重現(xiàn)”的意思，比如：The theme recurs several times throughout the book.這一主題在整部書里出現(xiàn)了好幾次。還可以表示“疾病復(fù)發(fā)”，比如：If the pain recurs, take this medicine.如果病痛復(fù)發(fā)，就服這種藥。
