可可英語的網(wǎng)友們大家好。歡迎做客“影音時尚口語”。我們的職場新鮮人系列今天迎來的是電影《時尚女魔頭》中的Andy。剛從學(xué)校畢業(yè)不久她，機(jī)緣巧合的進(jìn)入了一家頂級時裝雜志社作總編助手。她自己并知道這份工作是“A million girls would kill for”，每個女孩都向往的。雖然，總編Miranda是一個讓手下聞名色變的厲害人物，但單純的Andy認(rèn)為，只要認(rèn)真對待，一切都不成問題。但情況并不如此樂觀，聽聽首席助理Emily在Andy沒有按時送到咖啡后，是如何教訓(xùn)她的。

Andrea: Hello?
Emily: Where are you?
Andrea: Oh, I'm almost there. Yeah. Shoot! Oh!
Miranda: Is there some reason that my coffee isn't here?
Has she died or something?
Emily: No. God. Oh. Bloody time.
I hope you know that this is a very difficult job... Mm-hmm.
For which you are totally wrong.
And if you mess up, my head is on the chopping block.
Now, hang that up. Don't just fling it anywhere.
Okay. First of all, you and I answer the phones.
The phone must be answered every single time it rings.
Calls roll to voice mail, and she gets very upset.

Andrea: Well, what if I need to...
Emily: What? No. One time an assistant left the desk because she sliced her hand open with a letter opener...and Miranda missed Lagerfeld...just before he boarded a 17-hour flight to Australia.

1. 緊張的Emily在Andy一到達(dá)，就對她說，“Bloody time.”常看英文原聲電影的網(wǎng)友們對“bloody”的這個詞一定很熟悉。在口語中它意為“非常”，但在使用中常常省略掉后面的形容詞，直接修飾名詞。有非常強(qiáng)的感情色彩。比如，電影中的bloody time. 完整的表達(dá)應(yīng)該是bloody long time，這么長的時間。另外口語中還常用這個詞表示“該死的”這樣語氣比較強(qiáng)烈的意思，例如，I hate the bloody traffic jam. 我恨透了這該死的堵車。

2. 對于Andy不能及時到達(dá)Emily反應(yīng)如此激烈，原因就是：這份工作不單單是難的問題，還會關(guān)系到Emily的命運。所以Emily提醒Andy說，if you mess up, my head is on the chopping block. mess up“混亂, 弄糟”。再比如：Don't mess up my clean floor. 別把我的干凈地板弄臟了。If you do mess up, admit it and move on. 如果你真的把事情弄糟了，承認(rèn)，然后繼續(xù)。再來看chopping block,“斷頭臺”，on the chopping block這里比喻要遭殃的境遇。

3. Emily囑咐Andy必須做好的第一件事就是接電話。不過，要求是，be answered every single time it rings，每次響都必須接。如果“calls roll to voice mail”，這里用到了roll一詞。Roll有很多含義 “滾動，流逝，左右搖擺”等等。但大部分都是速度比較緩慢的運動，比如這句話：She rolled in for work twenty minutes late. 她懶懶散散地來上班，遲到了二十分鐘。那么用在本文中可以暗指如果動作緩慢，或者錯過了電話，會使得電話被轉(zhuǎn)接到語音信箱。而這樣的結(jié)果會讓Miranda非常惱火。

4. 那么，要能保證每次電話響都能接到，就必須chained to that desk. chain作動詞講，表示“鎖住”，這句話和對話最后一句man the desk at all times一樣，都表示，someone should always be at that desk. 也就是隨時隨地都要坐在桌子前。

5. 對于這些要求，Andy的回答是，Got it。在口語中表示“明白了”我們就常用這句話。完整的句子應(yīng)當(dāng)是，I have got it. 我已經(jīng)明白了。如果問別人是否明白了，就可以說 “Have you got it?”

6. Andy順從的接受了所有的要求，可惜的是，這份工作并不是只要man the desk all times就不會出差。被稱為女魔頭的總編Miranda在未來的日子里還會給Andy出一系列令她撓頭的難題。那么，出了錯的Andy會面臨什么呢？Andy該怎樣重新認(rèn)識這份工作并調(diào)整自己的態(tài)度呢？我們下期再說。
