1. Blair: Well, I'm a straight-"a" student, I am.
straight A: 全A生，全優(yōu)生。這里Blair又強(qiáng)調(diào)了一下a的發(fā)音。
2. Serena: Since the Dean handpicks the guests right after their interviews, I'm a shoo-in.
shoo in: a certain winner(穩(wěn)操勝券)。shoo就是發(fā)出的“噓”聲，通常用來(lái)引起人或動(dòng)物的注意力，并且把它們指向某個(gè)方向。所以shoo-in就有能控制住的意思，引申含義就是穩(wěn)操勝券. e.g. Australia are shoo-in's for the cricket world cup.
3. Serena: Yale is foroverachieving bookworms and preppies-- the Blairs of the world.
bookworm: 書(shū)呆子. nerd/geek/dork，這些字都代表一個(gè)人因?yàn)樘珜?zhuān)注某件事而看起來(lái)不太正常，如書(shū)呆子，而并非不聰明的呆。其中g(shù)eek特指計(jì)算機(jī)方面特別有研究，特別專(zhuān)注的人。preppy: 學(xué)院派風(fēng)格，可以表示大學(xué)預(yù)科生，也可以指學(xué)院派的打扮，GG里的那些服裝(尤其是Blair和Nate)，就屬于preppy風(fēng)格。
4. Lily: This one's a little edgier than I thought, but I like it.
edgy: Applied to books, music, or even haircuts which tend to challenge societal norms and reveal the dark side. Cutting edge.
Eleanor送來(lái)了兩套衣服，其中一條黑色的裙子(就是最后Lily在家里穿，正好被Rufus看到的那套)，Lily用edgy來(lái)形容這條很sexy的裙子。edgy可以表示“前衛(wèi)的，尖端的”，相當(dāng)于cutting edgy, 就是“走在前沿的意思”。

New Haven: Yale的所在地就是Connecticut 州New Haven縣(本集的片名就叫做New Haven Can Wait，取自1978 的電影Heaven Can Wait)。這里的invasion指的就是1779年7月4日在New Haven發(fā)生的一場(chǎng)入侵戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)（不要把它和獨(dú)立日混淆了，《獨(dú)立宣言》是1776年7月4日在費(fèi)城正式通過(guò)的）
