104.了解孩子的情況
"So my son's going to graduate school! He won a graduate fellowship!"
"我兒子要上研究生院啦！他拿到了研究生獎學金！"
Mr. Williams said as he bent down to shoot another hole on the golf course.
威廉先生在高爾夫球場上邊說邊彎腰又準備擊球。
"It's funny! I always thought he would be good for nothing!"
"這太有意思了！我一直認為他是個飯桶！"
"What?" Mr. Denny asked. "When did you think that?"
"什么？"丹尼先生問。"你什么時候這么認為的？"
"Oh back when he was younger. He and trouble went hand in hand there for a while, you know?
"那還是他小的時候。有一段時間他與麻煩聯(lián)系得可緊啦，你知道嗎？
He didn't have a good temper, he got in fights, and he was always off going places with the wrong crowd!"
他脾氣不好，打架鬧事，還經(jīng)常和一些不三不四的人到處跑！"
Mr. Williams stopped and hit the ball.
威廉先生停下來擊球。
"Sometimes he would even go without food for days-we were sure he was on drugs."
"有時他甚至幾天都不吃不喝——我們都認為他肯定在吸毒！"
"Hmmm. Things sure have changed!" Mr. Denny said as he stepped up to take his turn.
"嗯……事情肯定發(fā)生了變化！"丹尼先生說，他走過來，現(xiàn)在該他打了。
"Did you have anything to do with that?"
"你在中間起了什么作用嗎？"
"Nope. One day he was just up and changed.
"沒有。有一天他突然就變得懂事了。
And his good nature started coming out!
他敦厚的天性開始顯現(xiàn)啦！
It's a good thing too, because one of his friends was shot the following year."
這也是一件值得慶幸的事，因為他的一個朋友第二年就被人槍殺了。"
"Oh yeah. I heard about that，" Mr. Denny said, concentrating on the ball.
"可不是嘛。我聽說過那件事，"丹尼先生說，一副專心打球的樣子。
"Yep, it was pretty lucky for my son.
"是的，我兒子真幸運。
Well after that my son graduated with honors from high school.
在那之后，我兒子以優(yōu)異成績髙中畢業(yè)。
Then in college he did so well that he was invited to take some graduate level courses."
在大學里也很優(yōu)秀，結果還被邀請參加一些研究生水平課程的學習。"
"Oh, say, did he ever pay off his loans?"
"說說看，他的貸款還完了嗎？"
"Nope. But he got them at an interest rate that is a good bargain.
"沒有,不過他的利息可真夠便宜的。
And he won't have to pay during graduate school or for a grace period of 12 months when he's done. He'll be fine."
在研究生院讀書期間他是不用還的, 畢業(yè)后他還有一年的寬限期。他不會有問題的。"
"Good. Hey, do you get the "Yep. It's 11:45."
"很好，喂，你知道幾點了嗎？""知道。11:45。"
"How about we hang it up for now and grab a bite?"
"休息一會兒，吃一口東西怎么樣？"
"Sure, hey, how's your daughter doing".?"
"好的，喂，你的女兒怎么樣……?"
