64.又一次無聊的聚會
Conversation at dinner parties was always so dull!
宴會上的對話總是那么無聊！
Thought Marissa as she watched the guests divide among themselves for their little petty comments.
看到客人們分成幾撥開始閑扯時，瑪麗莎這樣想道。
"Yes，I got my new fur coat dirt cheap from a private dealer!
"是的，我的新皮衣是從私人商販手里買的，特別便宜！
It only cost several thousand dollars!"
只花了幾千美元！ "
"Oh, I would strongly discourage you from dating that man.
"噢，我真的要勸你不要和那個男人約會。
He is a good romancer, but once he has had you he'll disappear from view!"
他是個非常浪漫的家伙，可是一旦把你弄到手，他就會消失得無影無蹤！"
As Marissa continued to distribute her gaze throughout the room to see all the same people saying all the same things, she realized that she was ready for someone to dispense with the formalities of being nice and direct some harsh words at someone who really deserved it!
瑪麗莎的眼光繼續在房間四處捜索，她發現那些相同的人都在談論相同的事情，這時她才意識到她已經準備對別人不拘禮節，并對一個罪有應得的人說粗話！
"Who are you disguised as today? Marilyn Monroe?"
"你今天假扮的是誰？瑪麗蓮·夢露？ "
"What did you do to your hair? It looks like a bird's nest!"
"你把頭發怎么啦？看起來像個鳥窩似的！ "
But those words never came.
但是這樣的語言永遠沒有出現。
No one ever disagreed with anyone else at dinner parties.
在宴會上從來就沒有人和別人出現過分歧。
And as Marissa dipped her chips into the salsa once again she realized that she couldn't distinguish between one person and the other.
瑪麗莎再次拿炸土豆片放進沙司的時候發現她不能把他們一個一個分開來。
They all looked the same.
因為他們看起來是一個樣子。
She could hardly even divide the guests into male or female they were hardly distinct from each other!
她甚至很難把客人們分成男人和女人——因為他們幾乎沒有什么區別！
The women had short haircuts and wore pants, while the men had long hair, earrings and feminine shoes!
女人們頭發短短的，穿著褲子，而男人們留著長發，戴著耳環，穿著女式鞋！
Maybe that was part of the purpose，Marissa thought; maybe these parties are distinguished for allowing guests an opportunity to be someone else?
也許這就是目的的一部分，瑪麗莎想，也許這些宴會之所以有名是因為它們能給客人們提供做另外一個人的機會？
They could dispose of gender biases and act neutral!
他們可以拋棄一切性別偏見，做一回中性人！
Well it wasn't for her!
可這不是她的機會！
Marissa put out her cigarette, grabbed a drink and headed home!
瑪麗莎把煙掐滅，抓起一瓶飲料向家走去！
