Class Attendance Should Be Compulsory
上課應該是強制性的
Although some students argue that classattendance should not be compulsory either because the classes are boring orbecause they can learn more on their own, I believe that making classattendance compulsory is beneficial for both students and teachers.
但也有一些學生認為,上課不應該強制,因為上課很無聊，或是因為他們可以自學更多知識,我認為，強制上課有利于學生和教師。
First, it is beneficial for studentsbecause most universities have a regulation that states if students missone-third of their classes they will not be allowed to take the final exam. Sostudents being absent from class punish themselves by missing out on the examand face having to retake the class during the next semester. Furthermore, manyteachers tie in attendance with marks. For example, my English teacher awards10 percent of the final marks for attendance with percent being deducted forevery absence. In some cases, lack of attendance could mean the differencebetween a pass or fail. Second, it is beneficial for teachers because a fullclass complement shows respect for the teacher and the university educationsystem. If a teacher prepares to teach a class it is only right that studentsturn up to be taught. If it is not compulsory for students to attend classesthen teachers could say that what is good for the goose is good for the ganderstoo and refuse to take classes. Clearly this would lead to a breakdown of theentire university system.
