【筆記】

1.where do they have him incarcerated?
incarcerate: vt. 下獄,監(jiān)禁,幽閉 lock up or confine, in or as in a jail

2.They rioted so badly a year ago.
riot: n. 暴動,喧鬧,奔放 vi. 參加暴動,縱情,放蕩 vt. 浪費(fèi),揮霍 a public act of violence by an unruly mob; a state of disorder involving group violence

3.the guards pulled out
pull out: move out or away; bring, take, or pull out of a container or from under a cover

4.somebody didn't do their due diligence on this guy.
due diligence:適當(dāng)?shù)脑u鑒.這里直譯的話是說有人沒對這個家伙做適當(dāng)?shù)脑u鑒，其實(shí)就是有人沒有對他盡責(zé)。

5.that's a heck of a story
a heck of 好一 后面可以加a的

6.if this is stacking up like I think it is.
stack up:加起來,累計 arrange into piles or stacks

7.I'd be pretty confident the charges will be dropped.
drop:stop pursuing or acting 案子撤銷是用“drop”的

8.mess hall
a (large) military dining room where service personnel eat or relax 食堂

9.you are on your own
on one's own： 這里是說，你要靠自己了。意思就是說，你要對自己負(fù)責(zé)，出什么事兒跟我沒關(guān)系。說到這里，小豬想起之前看《Hustle》第一集 look after number 1，一直沒找到出處和起源，不過倒是看到解釋說意思就是自私自利。當(dāng)時看到的翻譯是“人不為己，天誅地滅”，想來也是挺貼切的。

10.right as rain
十分正確的。right as……這是中世紀(jì)就有的表達(dá)法。狄更斯的《匹克威克外傳》中就有Right as a trivet的說法。right as rain 是十九世紀(jì)末出現(xiàn)的說法。這么說可能是因?yàn)橛挈c(diǎn)總是直線落地，像一條直線。
