Angela Merkel was elected first female chancellor of Germany in 2005 and re-elected as the country's chancellor in 2009. She has been described as "the de facto leader of the European Union." Merkel’s dressing philosophy is "one size fits all." She always wears the same style pantsuit, but in different colors every day. Her signature style is an honest reflection of her political persona—a no-nonsense, rational woman. Dutch graphic designer Noortje van Eekelen even created a Pantone chart of the look of Merkel’s dress. From black to beige to a very on-trend purple, it runs through an impressive 90 shades.
