Bill Clinton 比爾·克林頓
克林頓任上處理過多少國家事務恐怕現在沒多少人記得了，不過他著名的“拉鏈門”事件還讓人一直數落到今天。現在但凡奧巴馬跟米歇爾有點什么親密舉動了，脫口秀里都會把克林頓拎出來調侃一番。克林頓在事實確鑿不容推翻的時候，不斷在改進自己的道歉技術，最初是：
I did have a relationship with Miss Lewinsky that was not appropriate. Infact, it was wrong. I misled people, including even my wife. I deeply regret that.
我的確和萊溫斯基小姐發生了不適當的關系，事實上，這是錯誤的。我欺騙了人民，甚至欺騙了我的妻子，我深深地感到后悔。
一直到后來的：
What I want the American people to know, what I want the Congress to know, is that I am profoundly sorry for all I have done wrong in words and deeds. I never should have misled the country, the Congress, my friends and my family.
我希望美國人民了解到，我希望國會了解到，我對我做過的錯事說過的錯話感到由衷的歉意。我從來都不應該欺騙國家、國會、我的朋友和我的家人。
可以看出，語言上下了很大的功夫。克林頓最終沒有被國會彈劾，這大概也因為他任期內美國國泰民安，老百姓也不愿意折騰了。
