這會兒，差不多所有的水手都一動不動地掛在船頭上；手里都還死板板地拿著錘子、板片、捕鯨槍和標(biāo)槍，正如他們都打各人的工作中一下子歇了下來；所有他們那些著了魔似的眼睛都緊瞪在大鯨身上，大鯨則奇特地轉(zhuǎn)來晃去，閃動著它那命中注定的大頭，它一邊猛沖，一邊就在它面前噴出一大串半圓形的霧沫。它整個相貌是一種報復(fù)。雪恥心切。無窮惡毒的神氣，而且不管人類的一切能耐，它那只硬得象拱架般的白額頭拚命撞船頭的右舷，直撞得水手和木頭都晃個不停。有的人就臉朝下直倒下去。標(biāo)槍手們的腦袋都象卸開來的木冠一般，高高地在他們那公牛似的脖子上晃來晃去。他們還聽到灌進(jìn)了裂口的水聲，就象山洪奔瀉進(jìn)水槽。
