China and Africa cooperate in various sectors
中國與非洲進行多方面合作
Vice Commerce Minister Qian Keming mentioned that the sixth ministerial meeting will be held in December in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Qian said that China and Africa have achieved progress in expanding investment and financing cooperation, increasing aid to Africa and supporting its integration. In investment, China has outperformed its target of providing 20 billion U.S. dollars of loan commitment to African countries.
The money is used to improve infrastructure and investment environment. It also offers more assistance to Africa in developing small-and-medium-sized enterprises, agriculture and manufacturing.
In its aid to Africa, China has supported over 900 projects in the continent, covering various areas such as poverty reduction, agriculture, health, education, trade promotion and climate change.
Meanwhile, China has helped African countries in infrastructure and construction, including big projects such as the railway linking Kenya's Nairobi and Mombasa, and the extension of hydroelectric power station in Kariba, Zimbabwe.
The forum on China-Africa Cooperation, or FOCAC, was launched in 2000, aiming to promote ties and cooperation between China and Africa through dialogue.
