At least two dead and dozens injured in San Francisco plane crash

At least two people were killed and as many as 75 injured when an Asiana Airlines plane crash landed at San Francisco International Airport, a city fire department dispatcher said. The plane was a Boeing 777 with more than 300 people on board. An official at the airlines head office in Seoul said the plane was carrying 141 Chinese, 77 South Koreans and 61 U.S. citizens. The official could not immediately confirm the nationalities of the remaining passengers. The cause of the crash in still unknown, but Deborah Hersman, who heads the National Transportation Safety Board says investigations are under way.

Death toll climbs in Egypt

Clashes continued into the night across Egypt after a day violence that left at least 24 people dead and hundreds wounded. Demonstrators for and against recently ousted President Mohamed Mursi faced off in the streets of Alexandria. Anti-Mursi supporters took cover behind riot police vehicles while exchanging rock and molotov cocktail bombardments with Mursi supporters. At least 12 people were killed in the clashes.

Friday's day of rage saw thousands of pro-Mursi supporters rally for the Presidents reinstatement after the army put him on house arrest earlier in the week. In Suez, clashes erupted after a pro-Mursi demonstration near the Governorate headquarters. And in Cairo Friday night, the army is greeted with cheers by anti-Mursi demonstrators. The army-backed interim government is preparing for new elections, although no timeframe has been declared.

New police investigation into missing Madeleine

British police launch a new investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann after uncovering new leads. The three-year-old girl vanished six years ago whilst on a family holiday in Portugal, leading to a global search that gripped the world's media. The case sparked massive international interest and numerous reported sightings from Belgium and Spain to Morocco, France and Malta but Madeleine's fate remains a mystery. Police launched a review of the case in 2011 after the missing girl's parents wrote to the British Prime Minister, saying not enough was being done to find their daughter.

METROPOLITAN POLICE DETECTIVE CHIEF INSPECTOR, ANDY REDWOOD, SAYING: "A vast quantity of material is being analysed and we have identified 38 persons of interest and within that 12 who are UK nationals and it is from that position that we have been able to move from review to investigation." Despite disappearing over six years ago, investigators say there is a chance that Madeleine McCann may still be alive.
