Britain, China call for peace in Egypt
World leaders weigh in on Egypt's political upheaval a day after Mohamed Mursi was deposed by the military to the delight of millions gathered in Cairo's iconic Tahrir Square. Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron said that a return to democracy is paramount.
BRITISH PRIME MINISTER DAVID CAMERON, SAYING: "We never support in countries the intervention by the military. But what now needs to happen, what we need to happen now in Egypt, is for democracy to flourish and for a genuine, democratic transition to take place and all parties need to be involved in that. And that's what Britain and our allies will be saying very clearly to the Egyptians " Foreign Secretary William Hague echoed Cameron's comments.
BRITISH FOREIGN SECRETARY WILLIAM HAGUE, SAYING: "It is the problem with a military intervention of course that it is a precedent for the future. And if this can happen to one elected president, it can happen to another in the future. And that's why it's so important to entrench democratic institutions." Meanwhile, Chinese officials asked Egypt to do all it can to avoid bloodshed, urging the transitional government to use dialogue to solve issues facing the country. Constitutional Court head Adli Mansour has taken over from Mursi, who was forced out of office Wednesday night for failing to come to a power sharing agreement with the opposition.
Maduro rejects U.S. extradition request for Snowden
While Fourth of July celebrations were underway at the U.S. embassy in Moscow, Edward Snowden is believed to still be at a Moscow airport --- his temporary home while he searches for a country to grant him assylum. Complicating matters for the former intelligence analyst who leaked details about the U.S surveillance program is the fact that Washington is warning foreign governments that accepting him could damage relations --- a point that didn't seem to concern Venezuelan President Nicolar Maduro who earlier in the week said Snowden deserves protection
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro saying (Spanish): "The government of the United States presented to our foreign ministry, as we were flying in, a scrap of paper requesting the extradition of the young (Edward) Snowden...They do not have the moral right to request the extradition of a young man who is only warning of the illegalities committed by the Pentagon and the CIA and the United States. As head of state, I reject any request for extradition. They (the U.S.) are simply disregarding bilateral agreements." Some expect Snowden to approach Venezuela for asylum in the coming days. His requests to others countries including Germany, Poland, Brazil and Italy have been rejected while others say a query would have to be made in person --- difficult since Snowden's passport has been revoked.
Superman flies in southern California
He is faster than a speeding bullet and is so strong that he is called 'the man of steel'… and now you can see him soar through the skies of southern California. This superman however, is made out of plastic foam and is remote-controlled from the ground. Designer and engineer Otto Dieffenbach is the man controlling the button and runs a start-up company that specializes in making radio-controlled planes that look like everyone's favorite superheroes. While this Ironman will not save lives like Tony Stark in the movie, they do have one thing in common: hordes of young fans.
Otto Dieffenbach, saying (English) "Usually the reaction you see, really amongst the little kids with the Superman and Iron Man, they're just coming up and just barraging you like a machine gun with questions because they're so interested and that's actually why I created him was to inspire the next generation to get into the hobby." Right now the custom-built heroes are too expensive for commercial retail, but they are available for a flyby for promotional purposes.
