Pakistan bomb kills 13
巴基斯坦炸彈襲擊致13人遇難
Thirteen people were killed when a bomb blew up here on the side of a road in Pakistan's city of Quetta. Eleven of the dead were security personnel and two of them were civilians. Another 16 people were wounded, and authorities say the death toll could rise. Police said the bomb contained around 100 kilograms of explosives and was apparently planted in a parked vehicle and remotely detonated.

The wounded were rushed to hospital where relatives and colleagues mourned the loss of their loved ones. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bomb. However, separatist rebels have for decades been battling to control the region's natural gas and other resources in Pakistan's southwest. It was the second major attack since Pakistan's elections, which marked the first transition between civilian governments in the country's turbulent history.

Masayoshi Matsumoto joined the Japanese army in 1943 and went to China as a medical orderly. One of his tasks was to examine Korean women brought in to work in a military brothel.

91-YEAR-OLD JAPANESE VETERAN MASAYOSHI MATSUMOTO, SAYING: "The comfort women had to go for sexual health checks, you could say it was their job to do it -- just as it was my job to check them. There was no choice in the matter. To refuse would have been a death sentence." Historians estimate that as many as 200,000 so-called comfort women were forced into prostitution by the Japanese Imperial Army during World War Two. Matsumoto who is 91 and a Christian pastor says it is now his mission to speak out about the injustices suffered by Asian women.

The comfort women issue has long been a diplomatic thorn between Japan and South Korea Last week the Mayor of Osaka sparked a firestorm of criticism at home and abroad when he said the military brothel system was "necessary" during World War Two.

They're a curse for most gardeners. But a snail invasion on this ornamental plant farm in Colombia gave its owners a new business idea - snail production for overseas culinary markets. Easier said than done - the molluscs are sensitive to even slight changes in their diet or environment. And snail farming isn't popular in Colombia says co-owner, Armando Rey.

It's a passion because one doesn't get a lot of information and we're doing it by experience and not by books, but by the experience that we're developing here." Launched in 2005, the company now produces four tons of meat a month - that's about 200,000 snails. Some of their biggest customers are in Europe where the economic recession has hurt the snail business. But, they are still growing slowly, says co-owner, Mariela Forero.

People order more each time and it has been very satisfying for us to know that in Canada, France, Spain, Japan, China, people have tried them and they've given our product rave reviews." So next time you order escargot, it might come from a farm in Colombia.
