Four year-old rescued from well in Northwest China
Emergency workers scramble to rescue a four-year-old girl, stuck at the bottom of a 17 meter-deep dry well in northwest China on Sunday. The girl fell into the well while playing at a construction site. Rescuers put a hose supplying oxygen down to the bottom of the pit to ensure the child could breathe safely. Due to the well's small diameter, the rescue team was unable to fit some equipment into the well that would allow for the child to be easily pulled out. Instead, the child was instructed to fit her wrists through the loops of a rope. The girl was reunited with her mother after a half hour-long rescue effort. The child was uninjured, but still sent to hospital for a basic examination.

North Korea tells foreigners to evacuate from the South
South Korean soldiers conduct an artillery drill near the North Korean border. The South says drills like this - some conducted with allies from the United States - are routine and non-threatening. The North sees them as a prelude to war. The North ramped up the rhetoric again on Tuesday - warning foreigners on state television to leave South Korea for their own safety. It also kept its workers away from an industrial zone on its border that had been run in coordination with South Korea. These South Korean workers returned home as their factories stand idle for another day. Despite this deterioration in relations between the two Koreas - few outside the North see an imminent threat of war - although there is still concern that Pyongyang could test a nuclear bomb or a missile. Japan has prepared for that by deploying surface to air missiles in Tokyo which it says it will use without hesitation to shoot down any North Korean missile entering Japanese airspace.
