Dreamliner test flight success
A Boeing Dreamliner takes to the skies for a test flight that brings it a crucial stage closer to getting back in the air. The aircraft took off near Seattle on Friday to prove a new system to stop the plane's lithium-ion batteries overheating or catching fire is working. When it touched down nearly two hours later Boeing said the flight had been uneventful and straightforward. The words appear non-committal but the flight concludes testing after little more than three weeks on the battery fix. Now regulators in the U.S., Japan and Europe have to decide if they're satisfied Boeing's solution is safe. Industry officials and airlines which operate the Dreamliner have said they expect it back in the air by May at the latest.

A full stop to poultry sales. Authorities in Shanghai will halt all local sales of poultry beginning Saturday. It's in response to six deaths in eastern China from a deadly new strain of the bird flu virus. In Shanghai, where four of the six deaths occurred, poultry markets were already being shut down, the live birds culled and incinerated.
The city's Center for Disease Control reminded residents the new strain of the virus, called H7N9, doesn't transmit from person to person. But Hong Kong authorities are taking extra precautions, after the first suspected case of the H7N9 virus was discovered in that city. The patient is a seven-year-old girl who fed wild pigeons during a recent trip to mainland China. She's quarantined at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in stable condition. But if her test comes back positive for H7N9, Hong Kong will activate a gradual contingency plan for an influenza pandemic.
China culls birds as flu deaths mount
China faces a new type of bird flu. Mainland China has six confirmed deaths from a deadly new strain of the virus known as H7N9. And on Friday authorities slaughtered over 20,000 birds at this poultry market in Shanghai which has now been closed down. There are 14 confirmed cases of the H7N9 virus, all of them in eastern China. At least four of the dead are in Shanghai. At this hospital in the Chinese financial hub doctors say one bird flu patient is fighting for his life in intensive care. The World Health Organization said there was no sign of "sustained human-to-human transmission.'' WHO scientists are analysing samples of the virus in case a vaccine is needed. Meanwhile Hong Kong's government confirmed the city's first suspected case of H7N9 bird flu, found in a seven-year-old girl who had recently travelled to mainland China.
