[Mrs Hughes, the housekeeper, walks with the keys. William knocks on the butler's door while he's polishing the silver.]
William: Breakfast is ready, Mr Carson.
早餐好了，Carson先生。
Carson: Ah, William. Any papers yet?
報紙到了嗎？
William: They're late.
Carson: They certainly are. Get the board out, so you can do them as soon as they're here.
看樣子是的，把衣板準備好，送來就干活。
[William sets up a board used for ironing the newspaper.]
Hughes: Is the library tidy?
藏書室打掃干凈了嗎？
Anna: Yes, Mrs Hughes.
打掃干凈了，Hughes夫人。
Good. I want the dining room given a proper going-over today. You can do it when they've finished their breakfast.
很好，今天把餐廳徹底清掃一遍，等主人們用完早餐就開始。
Oh, heavens, girl! You're building a fire, not inventing it! How many have you done?
天啊！姑娘！讓你生火，不是造火。還有幾個沒弄好？
Daisy:This is my last till they come downstairs.
這是主人們下樓前的最后一個了
Hughes: Very well. Now get back down to the kitchens before anyone sees you.
那就好，做完趕緊回廚房，別讓人看見你。
[The paperboy cycles up to Downton. Lady Mary gets out of bed and sees him ride past her window. She rings the bell.]
[The bell for the Queen Caroline room rings as the servants are eating breakfast.]
Thomas: And they're off.
他們醒了。
Patmore: No rest for the wicked.
一刻不得閑。
[Mrs Patmore looks at the bells. ]
Patmore: Lady Mary. Are the tea trays ready?
是Mary小姐。茶沏好了嗎？
[Anna gets up from the table.]
Anna: All ready, Mrs Patmore - if the water's boiled.
都好了，Patmore夫人，就等水開了。
Could you give us a hand?
你能幫我一起端去嗎？
O'Brien: I've got her Ladyship's to carry.
Anna: I'll help.
我來幫忙吧。
[Another bell rings.]
Hughes: Back door.
后門來人了。
Carson: The papers. At last... William?
報紙終于來了，William。
William: You're late!
你來晚了 。
[The paperboy reads the newspaper as William steps out.]
Paperboy: I know, but -
我知道，不過......
William: But what?
不過什么？
Paperboy: You'll see.
你自己看吧。
[William irons the newspaper.]
Carson: Do the Times first. He only reads that at breakfast.
先熨《泰晤士報》，早餐時他只讀這個。
And the Sketch for her Ladyship.
夫人則看《Sketch日報》。
[William nods as Carson leaves. He starts to fold up the paper, but stops when he sees something and reads it.]
Carson: You can manage the others later.
其他的等等再燙。
Daisy: Why are their papers ironed?
為什么要熨報紙？
Patmore: What's it to you?
關你什么事？
O'Brien: To dry the ink, silly.We wouldn't want his Lordship's hands to be as black as yours.
讓墨跡變干，傻丫頭。 老爺的手怎能和你的一樣臟。
[More bells ring. Daisy finishes clearing the table and Miss O'Brien gets up.]
William: Mr Carson! I think you ought to see this.
Carson先生，您看看這個。
[William hands him the newspaper.]
Hughes: I can't make myself believe it.
我簡直不敢相信。
Patmore: Me neither.
我也是。
Thomas: His Lordship's dressed.
[Mrs Patmore looks over at William who is talking to Daisy.]
William! Will you stop talking and take this kedgeree up?
William，別聊天了，快把雞蛋蔥豆飯端上去。
And mind the burners are still lit.
再去看下爐子，火要是快滅了就告訴我。
William: Yes, Mrs Patmore.
我知道了， Patmore夫人。
Thomas: Is it really true?
William: Afraid so.
恐怕是的。
Patmore: Nothing in life is sure.
人生無常。
