一.admire：vt.欽佩, 贊美, 羨慕
【語法用法】
admire后接名詞，不能接that從句。
I admire his learning.
句子最好別換成I admire that he is learned，因不自然。
下面的兩種表達方式均可：
I admire his learning.
I admire him for his learning.
【詞義辨析】
admire, honour, respect, regard, esteem
這些動詞均含“尊重、欽佩”之意。
admire側重指對某人或某物的仰慕、欽佩，并含欣賞愛慕之情。
honour側重指對某人或某物表示極大的敬意。
respect指對人的行為、品德、才華或成就等的仰慕尊重。尤指對年長或地位高的人的尊敬。
regard最正式用詞，中性，含義不很明確，一般需用修飾語加強或明確其意。
esteem除表示尊敬之外，還暗示由此而產生的稱贊。
【例句用法】
They admire her alabaster complexion.
他們羨慕她那白潤光滑的肌膚。
We admire him for his righteousness.
我們欽佩他的正直。
You may not like him, but you have got to admire his persistence.
你可以不喜歡他，但你不得不佩服他那種堅韌不拔的精神。
I am not a great admirer of her work.
我對她的工作不太欣賞。
She has many admirers.
她有許多追求者。
二.alive：adj.活著的, 有活力的, 注意到的, 熱鬧的
【語法用法】
alive屬于表語形容詞，不能說very alive，只能說much alive或very much alive（后者比前者使用更普遍），等同于alive的定語形容詞是living或live；
the greatest poet alive和the greatest living poet表達方式均可，意思也相同，也可說the greatest poet living，不過不常用，最好是說the greatest poet now living。
【詞義辨析】
alive, live, living
這些形容詞均有“活著的，活的”之意。
alive其反義詞為dead，指生命從奄奄一息到精力旺盛的各種狀態。
live通常作定語，指活生生的，生氣勃勃的，還可表示現場直播的。
living其反義詞為dead，指包括人和動植物的生命沒有消失、仍然存在的狀態。
【例句用法】
He was alive to the danger of the work.
他非常清楚這項工作的危險。
The city was all alive when he arrived.
當他到達時，城里非常熱鬧。
Are your grandparents still alive?
你的祖父母還在世嗎？
