01.Pressure
英語中說到壓力,這兩個詞比較常見:
Pressure: n./v.壓力,通常來自外界
Stress: n./v.壓力,緊張,通常指內在感受
首先來看看 pressure 的用法:
Under pressure: 在…壓力之下
Feeling the pressure: 感受到壓力
The pressure is getting to me. 我感覺壓力好大。
The pressure is taking its toll on me. 壓力大得讓我喘不過氣。
應對、解決壓力,用這個動詞:
Handle/can't handle
Can you handle the pressure?你能承受這些壓力嗎?
另外 pressure 也可以作為動詞使用:
Pressure someone to do something: 強迫某人做…
Your relatives pressure you to find a boyfriend/girlfriend. 親戚們逼著你找個對象。
02.Stress
對于春節期間眾多繁忙的事務,讓人感到壓力很大,精神緊張,更適合用Stress來表達:
Stressed out: 緊張,焦慮不安
Stressed out about something. 對某事感到緊張,有壓力
加上后綴-ful變成形容詞:
Stressful: 緊張的
a stressful job: 緊張的工作
a stressful life: 緊張的生活
Chinese New Year is a very stressful time. 中國新年是一段讓人壓力很大的時期。
03.Why?
為什么回家過年會讓人感到壓力山大呢?首先,旅行本身就是一件耗費精力的事情,更何況春運呢。
Traveling is always stressful.
回到家之后,如何在假期內拜訪眾多的親朋好友,合理地安排時間:
Scheduling: 行程安排
It's tough to schedule them in.
It's tough to fit them all in to your schedule.
過年了,給家人朋友準備禮物,采辦年貨,也是件大事:
Shopping: 購物
當然,還有來自關心你的父母、親戚的壓力:
Concerned relatives: 關心的親戚們
英文中關心人可以說:
To care for someone: 關心某人
但 concern 更加強調對方為你現在的狀況感到擔憂。過分的關心可以用:
Being nosy: 好管閑事的,愛打聽的
Nosy relatives: 八卦、愛管閑事的親戚
在外面“發展”得怎么樣?混得怎么樣?英語中不太會直接用“develop”這個具體的詞:
How are things with …?…做得怎么樣了?
How is … going?…進展得如何?
How is … coming?…開始運轉了嗎?
除了職業工作外,最有可能被問的就是感情生活:
Questions about your love life: 關于你感情生活的提問
Are you seeing anyone? 最近有和誰在交往嗎?
Is there someone special in your life? 身邊有特別的人嗎?
說了這么多問題,我們來看一看萬金油回答:
Everything is going great. 一切都好。
I'm doing fine. 我很好。
Things are coming along. 順其自然。
04.De-stress
面對這么多壓力,我們也要學會舒緩壓力:
De-stress: 使放松,解壓
I began doing yoga as a way to de-stress. 我開始做瑜伽使自己放松。
注意它的發音,不要和下面這個詞混淆:
Distress: 使憂慮,心煩
I hope I haven't distressed you with all these personal questions. 我希望我問的這些私人問題沒有讓你心煩。
