Hilda: Which country are you from?
希爾達(dá)：你來自哪個國家？
Nash: I'm from Algeria.
納什：我來自阿爾及利亞。
Hilda: Oh, is that an African country? I was not aware of that, sorry.
希爾達(dá)：哦，阿爾及利亞是非洲國家嗎？我沒有意識到這點(diǎn)，對不起。
Nash: It is in northern Africa, actually, but I wouldn't blame you. Africa was called the Dark Continent in the 19th century because people outside the continent, especially western people knew little about it. While in fact, it is the second largest and most populous continent after Asia.
納什：實際上是非洲北部國家，但是這不怪你。19世紀(jì)非洲被稱為“黑暗大陸”，因為非洲之外的人，尤其是西方人對其知之甚少。但實際上，非洲是第二大洲，也是除亞洲之外人口最多的大洲。
Hilda: Africa has always seemed mysterious to me, with people wearing colorful clothes, cowry necklace and headgear, sometimes with their faces painted in stripes.
希爾達(dá)：非洲對于我來說一直都很神秘，人們穿著艷麗多彩的服裝，戴著貝殼項鏈和頭飾，有時還會把臉上涂成條紋狀。
Nash: You've painted a picture of traditional African life. People put great emphasis on appearance, and therefore on clothes, jewelry and accessories. Shells are widely used, and have not only ornamental effect but also symbolic value. People like to talk about them and sometimes give them as gifts.
納什：你所描述的是傳統(tǒng)的非洲生活。人們很注重外表，所以注重衣服、珠寶和飾品的穿戴。貝殼被廣泛應(yīng)用，不僅起裝飾作用還有象征價值。人們喜歡談?wù)撨@類飾物，還會當(dāng)作禮物贈給別人。
Hilda: Would you dress like that in your home country?
希爾達(dá)：你在家鄉(xiāng)的時候也會打扮成那樣嗎？
Nash: Only on special occasions. Customs are also diverse. Many Algerians, especially in the cities, dress in modern western-style clothing.
納什：只有在特殊場合才會。各地習(xí)俗也有很大差異。許多阿爾及利亞人，尤其是那些住在城市里的人，會穿現(xiàn)代西方風(fēng)格的服裝。
Hilda: I see.
