Ms Yang: The Drunken Concubine is a beautiful Cantonese opera play. I love performing it so much.
Amelia: What kind of story is it?
Ms Yang: It's a love story about a concubine and emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty.
Amelia: Are the headdress and the costume supposed to reveal her identity? They are exquisite.
Ms Yang: Yes. And the water sleeves are used profusely in Chinese opera to express emotions.

Amelia: I see. I like your singing, although I couldn't understand the lyrics
Ms Yang: I know it's difficult, even people who speak Mandarin don't necessarily understand Cantonese. It's mainly spoken in Guangdong province, and also in Hong Kong.
Amelia: And I heard that the lyrics are very poetic.
Ms Yang: It's true. Many Cantonese opera plays are actually from ancient folklore, or anecdotes from history, and beautifully written.
