The Chinese Olympic Committee
The national sports organization in China was All China Sports Coordination and Development Committee founded in 1924 and was bestowed the recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1931. From then on, China had taken part in the 10th, the 11th and the 14th Olympic Games.
The All-China Sports Coordination and Development Committee was reorganized into All-China Sports Federation (the Chinese Olympic Committee) in October 1949, which is the only legally recognized national sports organization. Since the foundation of the People's Republic of China, some people in the IOC kept making trouble and intended to accept "two Chinas" in the IOC. The Chinese Olympic Committee issued a manifesto announcing the break from the IOC on August 19, 1958.
On October 25, 1979, the IOC Standing Committee meeting in Japan unanimously passed the resolution of resuming the seat of the People's Republic of China in the IOC. On November 26, the IOC issued an announcement to the world, saying that the only recognized Chinese Olympic Committee is the Olympic Committee of the People's Republic of China, and the name of the Olympic Committee in Taipei is the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee. As the response, the Chinese Olympic Committee decided to take part in the 1980 Olympic Games.
Chinese Sports Delegation broke the ice of winning no medals in the Olympic Games in the 23rd Olympic Games held in Los Angles in 1984, winning altogether 15 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 9 copper medals and numbered the fourth among the over-all delegations from the world.
Beijing, the Capital of the People's Republic of China, has bided twice for the host of the Olympic Games in 1993 and 2001. To the great disappointment of the Chinese people, Beijing lost in 1993 with two points less than Sydney, Australia, while in 2001, Beijing won the host of the 2008 Olympic Games with great advantages. Now, Beijing has already successfully held the just concluded 29th Olympic Games, in which the Chinese sports delegation has won 51 gold medals, 21 silver medals and 28 copper medals, altogether 100 medals and ranks on the top of the gold medal tally.
