1. 用作動詞，raise 意為“舉起”、“升起”、“增加”、“飼養”等，在現代英語中，只用作及物動詞，其后應有賓語或用于被動語態。如：

He raised his voice. 他提高了嗓音。

I can’t raise the box. 我舉不起這個箱子。

Her wages were raised. 她漲工資了。

He is a farmer and raises horses. 他是農民, 同時又養馬。

2. rise 可用作名詞。如：

There has been a rise in prices. 價格上漲了。

I’ve got two rises this year. 我今年提了兩次工資。

His rise to power was very rapid. 他很快就掌握了大權。

注：在美國英語中 raise 也可用作名詞，主要指工資增加。如：

I’m going to give you a raise [= rise]. 我要給你提工資。
