　　在上一課中，Michael介紹了公司的第一大特色，接下來就讓我們看看他是如何向客人們簡介第二大特色的。詞匯和句型

　　現(xiàn)在我們繼續(xù)看Michael講解公司的第二大特色：

　　Second, the distribution system of our company is also characterized by an effective use of computers.

　　看來公司的"行銷系統(tǒng)也因為電腦的有效運用而顯得很有特色"，上一次我們學會了用unique來表達"獨有的，獨到的"，而這次Michael用了be characterized by sth.這個句式 characterize 是由我們都非常熟悉的名詞character(特質、特色;品行)轉化過來的。

　　在應聘的時候，某些公司會要求你出示一份character reference,這可不是要你展示自己的性格，而是

　　要你出示一份"品德證明書"; 而及物動詞characterize，表示"以……為特征"，比如在介紹公司的生產

　　系統(tǒng)時，想表達"我們的制造系統(tǒng)以迅速和精確為特色"，就可以翻譯成：

　　The production system of our company is characterized by its efficiency and precision.

　　而表達"有效地運用……"，不妨記住an effective use of...的說法。

　　下面我們繼續(xù)看Michael如何具體地介紹公司的銷售系統(tǒng)：

　　We have established on-line computer communications systems with wholesale dealers across the nation in order to supply our products quickly to our customers.

　　Michael所在的公司"建立了一套與全國各地批發(fā)商聯(lián)網(wǎng)的電腦系統(tǒng)，以便使產品能迅速地供應給客戶"。

　　在這里on-line就表明公司的計算機是"聯(lián)網(wǎng)的"; wholesale代表 "批發(fā)銷售"，我們在做生意的時候常說"以批發(fā)價買進(賣出)"，用英語表達就是：

　　buy(sell) at wholesale price 和wholesale相對應的是retail(零售)，零售商也就是retailer了。

　　在想表達"建立"的意思時，establish可以說是一個很好的詞，比如說：

　　We have established the economic/ technical cooperation with many companies.

　　意思就是"我們和很多公司建立了經(jīng)濟/技術合作關系";

　　提到商品的"供應，供給"，supply這個詞是常常露面的，比如說： We can supply any quantity of these goods. "我們可以供應任何數(shù)量的這種貨品"。

　　另外supply還可以作為名詞使用，常用做復數(shù)，表示"供應量、供應物品"，比如說大家都知道：

　　Japan gets supplies of raw materials from abroad.(日本是從海外得到它的原料供應的)

　　Michael具體地介紹了兩點本公司的獨到之處后，又強調了一下公司的目標：

　　Thus, we have one of the nation's most efficient production and distribution system, and we try our best to serve our customers in the best way we can.

　　這里Michael說到了公司的目標就是"公司盡最大的努力來為客戶服務"，還記得我們以前學過用make an effort to do sth. 來表示"努力做……"嗎?

　　這里Michael用了我們比較熟悉的try one's best to do sth.的句式來表達"努力做……";這里提到的do in the best way we can也是一個值得記的句子，相同意思的說法還有：

　　do as much as we can。

　　但是公司的生產和行銷的確是非常復雜的一個體系，不是幾句話可以說清楚的。那么Michael最后是怎樣向客人交代的呢?

　　I have given you a rather simple explanation of how our production and distribution systems are organized. They are too complex to explain sufficiently in a short speech like this. You can refer to this guidebook for details.

　　雖然Michael已經(jīng)給客人們做了簡單的解釋，give a simple explanation， 但是他也感到整個體系還是"非常地復雜，不能在很短的講話中解釋的足夠清楚"。

　　這里用到的too...to...句式，我們是很熟悉的，表示"太……，而不能……";

　　這里的complex則是表達了"復雜的" 的意思，還記得Michael在介紹公司的電腦系統(tǒng)時也用了一個表示"復雜"的詞--sophisticated;不過這個sophisticated 更傾向于描述"技術上的復雜性"，而complex則傾向于表達"組織機構上的復雜"， 比如說：

　　The plot of that novel is very complex.

　　最后，Michael向客人們提出的建議是refer to this guidebook for details.讓客人 "參照guidebook(指導手冊)來了解更詳細的情況";這里refer to就用來表示"參照、參閱"，要注意的是這里的to 是個介詞，經(jīng)常見到產品說明書中說：

　　For the additional explanation, refer to page 20.

　　如果你做了老板，準備雇傭一名秘書，你倒不妨

　　refer to her former employer for her character.

　　"向她以前的雇主詢問一下她的品行"。

　　好了，你現(xiàn)在是不是能象Michael一樣介紹公司的特色呢?
