Her six kids are growing up fast (Maddox will go to college in the fall!), but Angelina Jolie, 43, isn't sitting back and waiting for the nest to empty.

Instead 2.5 years after her split from Brad Pitt, she's revving up her acting career and activism while balancing life as a mom.

She recently wrapped her first starring movie role in four years in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (out in October), is reportedly in talks to join the Marvel superhero film The Eternal sand produced an adaptation of the children's book The One and Only Ivan, coming out in 2020.

"It was Shiloh's favorite book a few years ago," she says. "I love the hopeful message about the environment and conservation."

She also adored putting Maleficent's horns back on again. "I hope the audience loves her as much as I do," she says of her character.

The longtime UNHCR special envoy has also visited places like Bangladesh, where she met with refugees from Myanmar, and she spoke before the U.N. on March 29 to urge nations to deploy more female peacekeepers as part of her Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative.

Still, life as a single mom has been an adjustment, and Jolie is still in divorce negotiations with Pitt.

A source says the process has been mostly peaceful lately, adding that the two regularly meet with a court-approved therapist as they privately work on a settlement.

After years of globe-trotting, the family is mostly staying put in L.A., where the kids see Pitt regularly.

Jolie leans on a small circle of pals. "Most of my friends are women I have met and worked with in the field," she says.
