When I walked through the front door of the house, I knew that I was too late.
當我走進前門的時候，我知道已經太晚了。
Uncle Jeff was sitting in a chair and looking as though he had been waiting for me. He had a hard look on his face.

"Give them to me," he said, quietly. I took the keys out of my pocket and handed them to him.

"What did you think you were doing?" he asked. I could tell that he was angry, but trying not to show it.

"I...I...," I started to explain, but then I stopped. All of sudden, I realized what I had done. How could I tell him?

How could I tell him that I had wanted to be a hero: a hero to Ben and a hero to Jennifer?

I looked at him, speechless. It was then that he noticed Ben's thesis under my arm.

"What's that?" he asked.

I didn't want to tell him. I didn't want to make things worse by telling him that I had taken evidence out of Dean Maurie's office.
