"We must cross this strange place in order to get to the other side," said Dorothy,

They began walking through the country of the china people,

and the first thing they came to was a china milkmaid milking a china cow.

As they drew near, the cow suddenly gave a kick and kicked over the stool, the pail, and even the milkmaid herself,
當(dāng)他們走近去時(shí)，那瓷牛猝然一踢，把那瓷凳子、瓷提桶全踢翻了，擠牛奶的女郎自己也被牛踢倒，和她的凳兒，桶兒
and all fell on the china ground with a great clatter.
一起倒在瓷的地面上，發(fā)出清脆的聲響來。
Dorothy was shocked to see that the cow had broken her leg off, and that the pail was lying in several small pieces, while the poor milkmaid had a nick in her left elbow.
多蘿茜吃驚了，發(fā)現(xiàn)那瓷牛斷了腿，那瓷桶摔得粉碎，可憐的擠牛奶的女郎，在左肘上出了一個(gè)洞。
"There!" cried the milkmaid angrily.
“瞧啊！”女郎憤怒地喊著，
"See what you have done! My cow has broken her leg, and I must take her to the mender's shop and have it glued on again.
“瞧瞧你們做了些什么事！我的牛斷了腿，我必須把它牽到修理店去，再膠合好。
What do you mean by coming here and frightening my cow?"
你們?yōu)槭裁磁苓^來，驚嚇我的牛？”
"I'm very sorry," returned Dorothy. "Please forgive us."
多蘿茜回答說：“我十分抱歉，請你原諒。”
But the pretty milkmaid was much too vexed to make any answer.
但是這個(gè)美麗的擠牛奶女郎，被激怒了，根本不理睬他們。
She picked up the leg sulkily and led her cow away, the poor animal limping on three legs.
她忿忿地拾起斷腿，牽著牛走了。那可憐的畜生，只好三只腳跛行著。
As she left them the milkmaid cast many reproachful glances over her shoulder at the clumsy strangers,
擠牛奶的女郎走開后，她向這些愚笨的陌生客人，回過頭來，投擲了好多次含有責(zé)備的瞥視，
holding her nicked elbow close to her side.
并且把她的受傷的臂肘，靠緊了她的身邊。
