"Let's go somewhere where we can talk," Uncle Jeff said,

Uncle Jeff sat down on one bench, and Jennifer and I sat on the other one facing him.

"You know each other?" Uncle Jeff said, looking at me.

"We met two days ago," I explained, "and we were supposed to meet for coffee last night."

"I see," he said. He turned to Jennifer.

"Why don't you tell me what you were doing in Dean Maurie's office?"

I couldn't see Jennifer's face. She was looking in the other direction,

Finally, she turned to Uncle Jeff and said, "If I tell you, can you keep it a secret? And will you help me?"

Uncle Jeff said, "I can't make any promises until you tell me your story."
