第16章 大騙子的魔術(shù)
Next morning the Scarecrow said to his friends:
第二天早晨，稻草人興奮對(duì)他的朋友們說：
"Congratulate me. I am going to Oz to get my brains at last. When I return I shall be as other men are."
“請(qǐng)你們?yōu)槲易８！．吘箠W芝要給我腦子了。當(dāng)我回來的時(shí)候，我就和你們一樣。”
"I have always liked you as you were," said Dorothy simply.
多蘿茜卻天真地說：“我倒喜歡你原來的那個(gè)樣子。”
"It is kind of you to like a Scarecrow," he replied.
你只是喜歡一個(gè)稻草人的模樣，”他回答說。
"But surely you will think more of me when you hear the splendid thoughts my new brain is going to turn out."
“但是，如果你聽到美麗的思想在我的新頭腦里產(chǎn)生的時(shí)候，你一定會(huì)更加看重我了。”
Then he said good-bye to them all in a cheerful voice "good-bye" and went to the Throne Room, where he rapped upon the door.
于是他用充滿著快活的聲音，向他們說了一聲再會(huì)，就徑直走到那宮殿中去了，敲著門。
"Come in," said Oz.
奧芝說：“進(jìn)來吧。”
The Scarecrow went in and found the little man sitting down by the window, engaged in deep thought.
稻草人大膽地走了進(jìn)去，看見這個(gè)矮小的老頭兒，正坐在窗前，像是在思索問題。
"I have come for my brains," remarked the Scarecrow, a little uneasily.
稻草人有一點(diǎn)兒局促不安地說：“我來取你答應(yīng)給我的腦子。”
"Oh, yes; sit down in that chair, please," replied Oz.
“啊，好吧；請(qǐng)坐在那椅子上。”奧芝回答說。
"You must excuse me for taking your head off, but I shall have to do it in order to put your brains in their proper place."
“請(qǐng)你原諒我，我要取下你的頭來。好讓我把腦子放在你腦殼里的合適的地方，我必須這樣做。”
"That's all right," said the Scarecrow. "You are quite welcome to take my head off, as long as it will be a better one when you put it on again."
“那無所謂，”稻草人說“非常樂意你拿下我的頭，我相信當(dāng)它安放上去的時(shí)候，是更聰明的一個(gè)。”
