"Come in," called Oz, and the Woodman entered and said, "I have come for my heart."
“請進來，”奧芝答應他，鐵皮人走了進去，說，“我為了我的心而來的。”
"Very well," answered the little man.
“太好了，”矮小的老人回答。
"But I shall have to cut a hole in your breast, so I can put your heart in the right place. I hope it won't hurt you."
“不過我必須在你的胸脯上割開一個洞，好讓我把你的心放在合適的地方。我相信那樣做不致傷害你。”
"Oh, no," answered the Woodman. "I shall not feel it at all."
“啊，沒關系，”鐵皮人回答說。“我不會有任何感覺的。”
So Oz brought a pair of tinsmith's shears and cut a small, square hole in the left side of the Tin Woodman's breast.
于是，奧芝取出一把馬口鐵匠用的大剪刀，動手在鐵皮人胸脯的左邊，很快剪開了一個小的方洞。
Then, going to a chest of drawers, he took out a pretty heart, made entirely of silk and stuffed with sawdust.
接著，他走到箱子旁邊，從抽屜里，拿出一顆用絲線編織的心，里面用木頭的鋸屑充塞。
"Isn't it a beauty?" he asked.
他問：“這難道不是一顆很美麗的心嗎？”
"It is, indeed!" replied the Woodman, who was greatly pleased. "But is it a kind heart?"
“是，確實是的！”鐵皮人回答說，他非常快樂。“但這是一顆善良的心嗎?”
"Oh, very!" answered Oz.
“啊，當然！”奧芝回答說。
He put the heart in the Woodman's breast and then replaced the square of tin, soldering it neatly together where it had been cut.
他把這心裝進鐵皮人的胸膛里，最后，再把割開過的地方，焊上一方馬口鐵，就這樣一切完備了。
"There," said he; "now you have a heart that any man might be proud of.
“唔，”他說，“現在你有一顆心了，這是不論誰都感到驕傲的。
I'm sorry I had to put a patch on your breast, but it really couldn't be helped."
然而請你原諒，在你的胸脯上多了一個補釘，但我實在沒有別的辦法了。”
"Never mind the patch," exclaimed the happy Woodman. "I am very grateful to you, and shall never forget your kindness."
快活的鐵皮人高聲地說：“不必介意這一方塊補釘，我很感激你。我將永遠忘不掉你的恩惠。”
"Don't speak of it," replied Oz.
“不必客氣，”奧芝回答說。
