Emily was late. Carla sat with her lunch and waited for her.
埃米莉遲到了。卡拉帶著她的午餐坐下等她。
When Emily arrived, she said, "Sorry, I'm late! I'll be right back. I need to get some lunch."

"But we were going to bring our lunches and share them, remember?" Carla said.

"I know, sorry! Oh, can I borrow some money? I forgot that, too." Emily said.
埃米莉說道：“我知道，真抱歉！哦，能借我一些錢嗎？我也忘記帶錢了。”
Emily was always forgetting things -- especially money.
埃米莉總是忘記帶東西，尤其是錢。
Emily borrowed Carla's money all the time.

She borrowed a few dollars last week and a few more last month.

She never wanted a lot of money. But Emily never paid Carla back, either.

Carla usually didn't think about it too much, but she was getting tired of this.

But she didn't know how to refuse.

So Carla gave Emily more money and didn't say anything.

The girls didn't meet for a few weeks after that lunch.

It was a hot day when they saw each other again. They met in the park.

"Hey, let's get some iced tea or something. I'm thirsty." Carla said.

"Sure. Do you mind buying mine?" Emily said.

Carla didn't want this to continue. What could she do?
