Time present and time past
現在的時間和過去的時間
Are both perhaps present in time future,
也許都存在于未來的時間，
And time future contained in time past.
而未來的時間又包容于過去的時間。
If all time is eternally present

All time is unredeemable.
全部時間就再也都無法挽回。
What might have been is an abstraction
過去可能存在的是一種抽象
Remaining a perpetual possibility
只是在一個猜測的世界中，
Only in a world of speculation.
保持著一種恒久的可能性。
What might have been and what has been
過去可能存在和已經存在的
Point to one end, which is always present.
都指向一個始終存在的終點。
Footfalls echo in the memory
足音在記憶中回響
Down the passage which we did not take
沿著那條我們從未走過的甬道
Towards the door we never opened
飄向那重我們從未打開的門
Into the rose-garden. My words echo
進入玫瑰園。我的話就和這樣
Thus, in your mind.
在你的心中回響。
But to what purpose disturbing the dust on a bowl of rose-leaves? I do not know.
但是為了什么 更在一缸玫瑰花瓣上攪起塵埃？我卻不知道。
Other echoes inhabit the garden. Shall we follow?
還有一些回聲棲身在花園里。我們要不要去追躡？
Quick, said the bird, find them, find them,
快，鳥兒說，快去尋找它們，去尋找它們
Round the corner. Through the first gate,
在花園角落里。穿過第一道門，
Into our first world, shall we follow the deception of the thrush? Into our first world.
走進我們的第一個世界，我們要不要聽從畫眉的欺騙？進入我們的第一個世界。
