Then a strange thing happened.
然后一件怪事發(fā)生了。
The house whirled around two or three times and rose slowly through the air.
這屋子旋轉(zhuǎn)了幾次，慢慢地升上空中。
Dorothy felt as if she were going up in a balloon.
多蘿茜覺(jué)得好像坐在一個(gè)輕氣球里緩緩地上升。
The north and south winds met where the house stood,
那南風(fēng)和北風(fēng)在屋子四周會(huì)合，
and made it the exact center of the cyclone.
屋子便成了旋風(fēng)的中心。
In the middle of a cyclone the air is generally still,
在旋風(fēng)的中央，通常是平穩(wěn)的，
but the great pressure of the wind on every side of the house raised it up higher and higher, until it was at the very top of the cyclone;
但是四周的強(qiáng)大風(fēng)力壓迫著這屋子，使它變得越來(lái)越高，直到旋風(fēng)的最高點(diǎn)；
and there it remained and was carried miles and miles away as easily as you could carry a feather.

It was very dark, and the wind howled horribly around her,
這時(shí)候，天空異常黑暗，風(fēng)在屋子的周圍可怕地怒吼著。
but Dorothy found she was riding quite easily.
但多蘿茜卻坐得很舒服。
After the first few whirls around, and one another time when the house tipped badly,
在第一次稍微旋轉(zhuǎn)以后，當(dāng)那屋子劇烈地震顫時(shí)，
she felt as if she were being rocked gently, like a baby in a cradle.

Toto did not like it. He ran about the room, now here, now there, barking loudly;

but Dorothy sat quite still in the floor and waited to see what would happen.
但是多蘿茜卻靜靜地坐在地板上，等待著著接下來(lái)發(fā)生的事情。
Once Toto got too near the open trap door, and fell in;
有一次，托托太靠近那打開著的活動(dòng)地板的門掉了進(jìn)去；
and at first the little girl thought she had lost him.
多蘿茜本以為它是掉下去了。
But soon she saw one of his ears sticking up through the hole,
然而過(guò)了一會(huì)兒，她看見(jiàn)它的耳朵，豎起在洞口，
for the strong pressure of the air was keeping him up so that he could not fall.
強(qiáng)大的空氣壓力托住了它，使得它掉不下去。
She crept to the hole, caught Toto by the ear, and dragged him into the room again,
她爬到洞口，捉住了托托的耳朵，把它拉進(jìn)屋子里來(lái)，
afterward closing the trap door so that no more accidents could happen.
然后關(guān)上了那活動(dòng)的地板門，防止意外事情再次發(fā)生。
