They went into the empty coop and there they found nothing but a bowl of water and a small basket filled with chick-peas.
他們落到一個空了的鴿子窠里。那兒只有一碗水和一籃鷹嘴豆。
The Marionette had always hated chick-peas.
木偶有生以來最討厭鷹嘴豆。
According to him, they had always made him sick; but that night he ate them with a relish.
對他來說，鷹嘴豆總是讓他想吐，可這天晚上他津津有味的吃著。
As he finished them, he turned to the Pigeon and said: "I never should have thought that chick-peas could be so good!"
等他吃完了，他才轉(zhuǎn)臉對鴿子說：“我從沒想到鷹嘴豆這么好吃！”
"You must remember, my boy," answered the Pigeon, "that hunger is the best sauce!"
“你得記住，我的孩子，”鴿子回答說，“饑餓是最好的調(diào)味醬！”
After resting a few minutes longer, they set out again. The next morning they were at the sea shore.
休息了幾分鐘后，他們又出發(fā)了。第二天早晨他們來到海邊。
Pinocchio jumped off the Pigeon's back, and the Pigeon, not wanting any thanks for a kind deed, flew away swiftly and disappeared.
皮諾喬從鴿子背上跳了下來。而鴿子完全沒有因為做了好事而想要感謝，馬上飛走不見了。
The shore was full of people, shrieking and tearing their hair as they looked toward the sea.
海邊全都是人。他們看著大海尖叫撕扯著頭發(fā)。
"What has happened?" asked Pinocchio of a little old woman.
“出什么事了？”皮諾喬問旁邊一位一個小老太太。
"A poor old father lost his only son some time ago and today he built a tiny boat for himself in order to go in search of him across the ocean.
“一位可憐的爸爸不久前丟了他的兒子，他今天做了一艘小船想到海那邊去找。
The water is very rough and we're afraid he will be drowned." -"Where is the little boat?"
可海上波濤洶涌，我們擔(dān)心他會淹死。”－“小船在哪兒？”
"There. Straight down there," answered the little old woman, pointing to a tiny shadow, no bigger than a nutshell, floating on the sea.
“那邊，直往那邊下面，”一個小老太太指著一只小船回答說，它沒有一個堅果殼大，正漂浮在海面上。
Pinocchio looked closely for a few minutes and then gave a sharp cry: "It's my father! It's my father!"
皮諾喬咪起眼睛朝那邊看了一會兒，尖聲高叫：“那是我爸爸！那是我爸爸！”
Meanwhile, the little boat, tossed about by the angry waters, appeared and disappeared in the waves.
期間，小船被急浪拍打著翻來覆去，在洶涌的波浪中時隱時現(xiàn)。
And Pinocchio, standing on a high rock, tired out with searching, waved to him with hand and cap and even with his nose.
皮諾喬站到一塊很高的礁石頂上，疲于搜索著，不斷朝他揮舞著手和帽子，甚至是鼻子。
