That was when Lord Baelish had said, "Oh, I don’t know, Septa. Some of her lord father’s decisions could do with a bit of questioning. The young lady is as wise as she is lovely." He made a sweeping bow to Sansa, so deep she was not quite sure if she was being complimented or mocked.
這時一旁的貝里席伯爵接口道：“哎，修女，我也弄不明白，只覺得她父親大人有些決策可以再深思熟慮一些。我看您家小姐的睿智不輸她的美貌。”說完他向珊莎深深鞠躬，彎腰的程度反而讓珊莎懷疑他究竟是在恭維還是譏諷。
Septa Mordane had been very upset to realize that Lord Baelish had overheard them. "The girl was just talking, my lord," she’d said. "Foolish chatter. She meant nothing by the comment."
茉丹修女發(fā)現(xiàn)她們的談話內容被貝里席大人聽見，非常不悅。“大人，這孩子只是隨便說說，”她說，“不過是瞎說話，沒什么特別意思。”
Lord Baelish stroked his little pointed beard and said, "Nothing? Tell me, child, why would you have sent Sir Loras?"
貝里席大人捻捻尖胡子，“沒有？孩子，告訴我，為什么你覺得應該派洛拉斯爵士去呢？”
Sansa had no choice but to explain about heroes and monsters. The king’s councillor smiled. "Well, those are not the reasons I’d have given, but..." He had touched her cheek, his thumb lightly tracing the line of a cheekbone. "Life is not a song, sweetling. You may learn that one day to your sorrow."
珊莎別無選擇，只好把英雄和怪獸那套和盤托出。國王的重臣微笑道：“呵，這可不是我的理由，不過……”他碰了碰她臉頰，手指輕輕劃過顴骨輪廓。“小可愛，人生不比歌謠。有朝一日，你可能會大失所望。”
Sansa did not feel like telling all that to Jeyne, however; it made her uneasy just to think back on it.
珊莎覺得沒必要把這席話也告訴珍妮，光想想就夠讓她不安了。
Sir Ilyn’s the King’s Justice, not Sir Loras, Jcyne said. "Lord Eddard should have sent him."
“國王的執(zhí)法官是伊林爵士，不是洛拉斯爵士，”珍妮說，“艾德大人應該派他去才對。”
Sansa shuddered. Every time she looked at Sir Ilyn Payne, she shivered. He made her feel as though somethingdead were slithering over her naked skin. "Sir Ilyn’s almost like a second monster. I’m glad Father didn’t pick him."
珊莎聽了不禁發(fā)起抖來。每次她見到伊林·派恩爵士，總是無法克制地顫抖，仿佛有什么死掉的東西在貼著皮膚滑動。“伊林爵士也跟怪獸沒兩樣。我很高興父親沒選他去。”
